Yazoo County deputies have charged a man in connection with a recent shooting at a local apartment complex.
Terrell Ross has been charged with aggravated assault and shooting inside an occupied vehicle.
Terry Gann, chief deputy with the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department, said the shooting occurred around 12:35 a.m. Tuesday at Shady Lane Apartments. He said his investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.
"When shots were fired inside a vehicle, it sprayed fragments, hitting a three-year-old child," Gann said. "That really struck a nerve with us, and we are tackling this case with that in mind."
The child's mother was also inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Gann said she was not injured.
Gann said the shooting remains under investigation, but he said he believes that other recent shooting cases in that area may be connected.
"We do believe they are related and that it is gang-related," he added.
