An afternoon shooting at a local apartment complex last week left both the victim and the suspect recovering from gunshot wounds in Jackson hospitals.
Det. Nolan Warrington, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the shooting occurred around 4:16 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Broadmoor Village Apartments in Yazoo City. He said when officers arrived at the scene, both the victim and the suspect were not there.
“The victim drove himself to the hospital after he was shot multiple times,” Warrington said. “The suspect was also shot. The suspect has not been arrested yet, but we know he is at a Jackson hospital receiving medical attention. Upon his release, he will be brought into custody.”
The suspect, who Warrington said he did not want to name until his official arrest, will be charged with aggravated assault.
Warrington said the altercation began in a vehicle with both the victim and the suspect inside. The suspect exited the vehicle and began firing multiple shots at the victim. He said the victim also returned fire, striking the suspect.
No other injuries were reported at the scene.
As of press time, both the victim and the suspect remained hospitalized.
