After marijuana and a weapon were found inside a student’s vehicle this week, misdemeanor charges have been filed against the juvenile.
Terry Gann, chief deputy with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said a school resource officer at Yazoo County High School requested a K9 unit conduct a search on the campus of the local high school.
“The building was first searched with nothing found,” Gann said. “The K9 unit then proceeded to conduct a search in the school parking lot, hitting an alert on one of the parked vehicles. After searching the vehicle, a small amount of marijuana and a handgun were found inside.”
Gann said the juvenile was charged with misdemeanor charges including possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm on school property.
“The firearm possession was considered a misdemeanor because it was found inside the vehicle,” Gann said. “Had the gun been brought into the building, it would have been a different story.”
