A habitual offender, who was once labeled as Yazoo County’s Most Wanted in 2019, finds himself wanted by local law enforcement again following a chase earlier this week.
Police Chief Terry Gann said Jody Tate is wanted for multiple charges, including a Mississippi Department of Corrections warrant, following a chase through Yazoo City Monday afternoon. However, one subject, Calvin Langston, was apprehended by officers.
Gann said a police officer pulled over a vehicle being driven by Tate around 3 p.m. Monday on Jerry Clower Boulevard. The passenger was later identified as Langston.
“Tate ended up fleeing the scene after the traffic stop, and a chase ensued,” Gann said. “The chase shortly ended in the Enchanted Hills area on Kings Row when both Tate and Langston bailed out of the vehicle with one heading east and the other heading west.”
Gann said officers also discovered two firearms inside the vehicle, adding that both Tate and Langston are convicted felons.
Gann said a tip soon arrived from a resident in the area, resulting in Langston being found hiding in a briar patch. He was charged with resisting arrest by fleeing, trespassing and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Tate, however, remains on the run and was reported last seen wearing a hat, red shirt and dark-colored pants. Along with an MDOC warrant, he will be facing resisting arrest by fleeing and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charges.
Tate has made headlines with law enforcement before, even being labeled as Yazoo County’s Most Wanted in 2019. He was later apprehended by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, where Gann was then serving as chief deputy, and charged with attempted aggravated assault on an officer, felony evading, resisting arrest, burglary of a dwelling, possession of stolen property and telephone harassment.
To report the whereabouts of Tate, Gann asked that tips be called in via 911.
“I do not want to label him as armed since we recovered the weapons in the car,” Gann said. “But with every encounter he has had with law enforcement, he has been known to have a weapon.”
