A murder suspect in the shooting death of a Yazoo City man in 2021 has been sentenced to life in prison.
Wesley Littleton, 30, was sentenced to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of murder in Yazoo County Circuit Court last week, according to Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman.
Littleton was charged with murder in October of 2021 after his attorney brought him to the Yazoo City Police Department in connection to the shooting death of Willie Thomas Jr. He was held in custody with a $1 million dollar bond upon his arrest.
According to Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers, Thomas died at a Jackson hospital following a shooting in September of 2021. Officers first responded to reports of the incident at 632 Central Alley, where they found Thomas with a gunshot wound to his back.
“There was a lot of blood loss, and he was still alive at that point,” said Richard Brooks, who was a detective at the time. “He even spoke to officers briefly before being airlifted to a Jackson hospital.”
Thomas would later die from his injuries at the Jackson hospital.
