It is now official. We live in the land of the absurd.
Last week, the Taxpayer Protection Alliance accused the University Medical Center of purposely poisoning rats by addicting them to drugs. It seems that the UMMC has been using rats in experiments designed to help doctors understand and treat drug addiction. Rats breed by the millions. Lab rats can be produced by the millions. I’ve got some in a barn, and I’m going to kill as many as I can. It is too bad that some left-wing group of do-gooders is giving the UMMC a hard time about the use of rats. How crazy is this?
In this age of political correctness, the Taxpayer Protection Alliance will probably intimidate the UMMC over this issue, and of course, the administration will ban the use of lab rats for experiments. What I hope actually happens is that the UMMC administration will tell this group of leftists to go “fly a kite.” Hopefully, the UMMC will say this to this rat-loving bunch, “Not only are we going to continue to use lab rats in important experiments, but we are going to increase the size of the program. How does that suit you?”
Which brings me to the point of this column. Have you noticed that every “establishment person” in Washington is hoping and praying for a “contested Republican Convention? A contested convention will occur if no candidate receives 1,237 delegates who are pledged to support him at the convention.
John Kasich, the Governor of Ohio, has no mathematical chance of winning the nomination the old fashioned way, but he persists in remaining in the race to pull votes away from Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. The more I watch this man, the crazier he becomes – even crazier than Bernie Sanders.
The power brokers in the Republican Party have already said that if neither of these two men reach the magic number of 1,237, then the convention is free to nominate another candidate – even a candidate who did not run in the primaries.
If you went to an insane institution and asked the most insane patient to draw up a plan to nominate a person for president, he would never adopt this plan.
This plan ensures that the Republican Party will become totally irrelevant. Trump supporters will drop out by the millions. Cruz supporters will follow. Paul Ryan will probably be selected as the sacrificial lamb, and Hillary and the Democrats will sweep the country.
No matter what happens, if the Republican Party wants to survive, it must nominate either Cruz or Trump. It has no other choice.
Both of these men have campaigned throughout this country. They have invested time and energy in this campaign. Not only that, but Trump has invested millions of dollars of his own money in this campaign. Cruz supporters have invested millions of dollars.
For the “establishment” to even consider nominating anyone other than the last two standing is insanity beyond anything that I have ever seen. Talk about self-destruction! This would be a suicide bomber’s fantasy. This action would result in the total destruction of the Republican Party since more than half of its members would simply disappear.
Trump and Cruz are both hated by the “establishment.” Trump is an outsider who is not a member of the establishment’s club, and Cruz is an outspoken conservative. All of this nonsense about how “mean” this race has become is a product of the establishment’s propaganda machine.
Presidential elections have always been rough and tumble. That is why only a select few are willing to put themselves through this unbelievably tough ordeal.
My advice to the Republican “establishment” is this: control your emotions, forget your self-interests and look out for the interests of the country, use your brains for a change, and let this primary play out. Hillary is the real enemy, and for those of you Republicans who say that you will vote for Hillary over Trump or Cruz, you and I have nothing in common. You are part of the problem, not the solution. You would make an outstanding member of the Taxpayer Protection Alliance and the Animal Justice Project.
