Many years ago, I ran across a book titled Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Huxley wrote of the future and described things that most of us had never imagined. The book was so interesting that I bought a copy, and somewhere in the Patterson household, the book still survives.
Now, we have arrived at that “brave new world.” We have modern miracles that were not available just fifty years ago. We have made giant steps in medicine, communication, computer science, engineering, and space flight. As a general rule, our people seem to be smarter than ever, but I wonder sometimes if that is true.
Politics is something that affects all of us - whether we like it or not. Decisions made in Washington or Jackson have a direct impact on our lives, and sometimes that impact is bad. Lately, it seems that our nation is turning to the left becoming more and more socialistic. Individual freedoms are being eroded away, and our citizens seem to be oblivious to this fact.
Take for example the candidacies of Republicans Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. For my money, either of these two individuals would make a great president. Cruz is smart, and he has a complete and valid view of the U. S. Constitution. Trump on the other hand is hard to describe other that anyone who listens to him talk knows that he is a leader.
True, he does not understand the fine points in some of our bureaucratic policies. True he makes a misstep now and then, but every politician does that. Hillary has stated that the “unborn have no constitutional protection.” That is enough to disqualify her from being president, yet she trudges on, Bill by her side, telling lie after lie. It has gotten so bad that even the liberal pundits are writing that she may not be able to tell the difference between a lie and the truth.
But the media loves spin, and they dislike conservatives, and they hate Donald Trump. Even Fox News has aligned against him, and on every news program, he is vilified as incompetent, shallow, egotistical, and a blowhard.
Many of the newspapers in our great state have a liberal slant. I opened up the newspaper this morning to find a section titled “Other cartoonists views.” Sometimes these cartoons are funny, but sometimes they portray the liberal views of the cartoonist.
Today, the cartoonist took a shot at the Republican presidential leader, Donald Trump. The cartoon begins with this heading: “This month Donald Trump decides to look and act more presidential.” There is an outlandish cartoon picture with Trump’s mouth stitched shut. But there is more spin designed to make the reader hate Trump or at least question his sanity. Drawn on his lapel are little stickers with various messages. The first one is “Global Warming is BS.” I whole-heartedly agree with this statement, so what is the problem?
Next, there is a line drawn through NATO. Trump is correct. NATO is obsolete and costs U. S. taxpayers too much money. Other nations are not paying their fair share.
The next dig at Trump says, “Wall off Mexico.” Not a bad idea. If we don’t do something and do it quick, Spanish will be the new language, and terrorists will be solidly settled in the United States. Fortunately, Trump sees the “clear and present danger.”
“Nuke ISIS,” is next. No where has Trump said that he will nuke ISIS. He just said that he would not take nuclear off the table. Smart. Never take anything off the table unless you are Obama, then take everything off the table like he did with Iran.
Finally, in a desperate attempt to show that Trump is a total fool, the cartoonist writes, “Bankrupt China.” Trump has made millions, perhaps billions doing work for China. One of China’s largest banks occupies one of his buildings in New York City. Trump is a businessman. He certainly does not want to bankrupt China. He wants to make our trade deals fair. Good businessmen don’t like one-way deals.
So to use two Trump expressions, this cartoonist is “stupid,” and “he’s fired.”
