Stephen Paddock, the lunatic who took 59 innocent lives and critically wounded 500 others in one of the worst mass murders in American history, has put the liberals in this country on a "sugar high." Every leftist in the U. S. Senate is braying like abandoned mules about their favorite subject, "Gun Control." These people are attempting to appeal to America’s emotions, but somehow, it seems to me that we have heard their story before.
What happened in Las Vegas on Sunday night was horrible. Innocent people, including police officers, died at the hands of Paddock. The liberal press is once again demonstrating their ignorance by focusing in on the number of guns Paddock had in his hotel room and at other residences. I heard one commentator recommending that we pass a law "limiting the number of guns a person could own." Of course, this is nonsense. Most southern boys are hunters, and believe me, most hunters have several guns. There are guns for duck hunting, turkey hunting, deer hunting, squirrel hunting, dove hunting, and any other type of hunting we do. In addition, most people keep a gun in their home for self-protection. But back to hunting. If a hunter is hunting deer in the thick woods, he/she may want to carry a .30-30 rifle. This rifle is deadly at about a hundred yards and is very effective for bringing down the largest deer. On the other hand, if a hunter has a stand facing an open field, then he may want a .30-06 or some other gun designed for shots of 200 yards or more. The number of guns a person may own is irrelevant because if that person wants to commit a crime, one gun is usually enough.
This brings us to the subject of Stephen Paddock. How could law enforcement have prevented him from killing 59 people whose only purpose at the time was to have a good time? Paddock had no criminal history. He followed all the rules and regulations when he bought a gun or guns. There were no indications that this man was a menace to himself or to society. He was 64 years old. At 64 most men are ready to enjoy the fruits of their labors. They are not about killing anyone. Besides, according to his brother, Paddock was a millionaire, so money was not an issue. He owed some gambling debts, but based on his ability to make money, they were actually insignificant.
The point is that there were no outward indications that this man would plan an attack that resulted in the mass murder of individuals listening to a country music concert. There are no laws on the books that would have prevented this massacre. The fact is that there are no laws that may be passed during this time of hysteria that will prevent something like this in the future. Take away the guns, and we will see what we see in Afghanistan or Iraq. Insane people will simply strap bombs to themselves, walk into a crowd, and blow themselves up.
Hannah Arendt, an escapee from Nazi Germany, and a scholar who studied violence and its causes, has written, "The greater the bureaucratization of public life, the greater will be the attraction of violence. In a fully developed bureaucracy there is nobody left with whom one could argue, to whom one could present grievances, on whom the pressures of power could be exerted. Bureaucracy is the form of government in which everybody is deprived of political freedom, of the power to act; for the rule by Nobody is not no-rule, and where all are equally powerless we have a tyranny without a tyrant."
The left in this country does not respect the Constitution. Consequently, they do not respect the Second Amendment. They would feel very comfortable if the Second Amendment were rescinded. They profess to have compassion for their fellow citizens, but this is only if their fellow citizens believe what they believe. Make no mistake. The leftist in this country want to take your guns from you. Their goal is to have defenseless citizens who cannot oppose their tyranny. Their plan is to start slow, but then, over the years, slowly take away your rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution. Be prepared for the worst, and do not be surprised if some "so-called" conservatives join the left in calling for a gun ban. Stephen Paddock has given the left a huge case of ammunition, and don’t think for one minute that they want fire every round.
