After a week off, Benton Academy returned to the gridiron Friday night against the Canton Academy Panthers.
The Panthers picked up just their second win of the season while keeping the Raiders win-less in a 41-6 shellacking.
BA freshman quarterback Tanner Vandevere is looking better and better with each game and while the team results aren’t pleasing, there’s no denying Vandevere’s improvement.
He connected on 4-of- 6 passes against Canton for 56 yards. His confidence is growing with each start, which will serve him greatly in the years to come.
Vandevere’s main target Friday night was junior Cullen McCain.
McCain had 35 receiving yards followed by do-it-all senior Waylen Dewitt with 10 yards, Ethan Shanks with eight yards and Bryce Ables with three yards.
On the night, Dewitt had 91 All-Purpose yards and a touchdown to lead the Raiders.
Dewitt and Parker Nelson led the Raider defense with four tackles and one sack apiece.
Benton travels to Central Holmes this week.
