The scores of Yazoo City and Yazoo County public schools were included in the Mississippi Department of Education’s Academic Assessment Program results.
Statewide, results showed increased proficiency in some grades and content areas but a slight drop in overall proficient and advanced scores. The percentages of students scoring proficient or advanced in 2024-25 on the statewide level are 54.5 percent in math, 47.4 percent in English Language Arts (ELA), 60.9 percent in science, and 69.7 percent in U.S. History.
A local breakdown of those state scores include:
• When it comes to third grade reading assessments, 43.3 percent of students within the Yazoo City Municipal School District at McCoy Elementary School met the state’s requirement. However, 56.7 percent did not.
Overall, within the Yazoo County Public School District, 52.3 percent did meet the requirement. Bentonia Gibbs Elementary School showed that 55.2 percent of its third graders met the state requirement with 44.8 percent not. Linwood Elementary School showed 46.7 percent met the state requirement with 53.3 percent not.
Among local high school students, the levels recorded within English, Math, Science and U.S. History include Minimal, Basic, Pass, Proficient and Advanced.

MAAP results make up a large portion of the A-F accountability grades schools and districts earn annually. Next year, schools and districts will be graded with an updated accountability model. Accountability grades for the 2024-25 school year will be released at the Mississippi State Board of Education meeting on Sept. 25.
