A man wanted for attempted murder was apprehended by officers after he was caught allegedly shoplifting from a local dollar store.
David Wright was charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police Chief Jay Winstead said Wright was arrested at a local Dollar General after a shoplifting call was reported to the Yazoo City Police Department. Winstead said that Wright, who is a convicted felon, also had a handgun in his possession when he was apprehended.
Wright was wanted by local authorities in connection with a violent stabbing that occurred on June 28. The stabbing occurred at a home on West Madison Street, where the victim was stabbed seven times with a knife. The victim was airlifted to a Jackson hospital, where he recovered from his injuries.
Drug Arrest
In other police news, a tip of suspected drug activity at a home on Muse Street led to the arrest of Benjamin Slaton, who was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
