Yazoo County
Yazoo County picked up the Panthers’ first win of the baseball season with a 14-0 shutout in game two of a doubleheader at Pelahatchie Saturday.
Josh Snow earned the win for the Panthers, allowing just three hits and no runs in four innings of work.
TJ Rials led the Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with 2 RBI. Rials also had a pair of stolen bases.
Graelan Shaffer, Parker Barron and Will Andrews each had two hits. Myron Straughter and Rials each had a hit.
Gabe Shaffer drove in the first run for Yazoo County in the opening inning, and the Panthers continued to build on the lead.
Yazoo County was scheduled to host Humphreys Academy on Tuesday. Those games were not completed by press time. The Panthers traveled to Velma Jackson on Thursday. Details from those games will appear in the next edition of The Herald.
Benton Academy
Benton Academy outhit Winston 7-3 in the season opener on the road, but the Patriots walked away with a 6-2 win in the end.
Dalton Robles led the Raiders at the plate with two hits. Robles also pitched for BA, striking out three batters over three and a third innings of work.
Ethan Shanks, Brett Pierce, Cullen McCain, Waylen Dewitt and Riley Powell each had a hit for the Raiders.
Tanner Vandevere and Layton Willard each drove in a run for Benton.
Shanks was the relief pitcher, and struck out three batters in 2.2 innings.
On Thursday the Raiders hosted rival Manchester Academy. Details from that game will appear in the next edition of The Herald.
Manchester Academy
Manchester Academy baseball is off to a 3-3 start on the season.
St. Aloysius overcame a four-run deficit Monday to defeat the Mavericks 9-4 Monday and break a two-game winning streak.
MA opened the season with an 8-5 win at St. Aloysius before a 9-6 loss at Kirk Academy and a 12-9 loss at Indianola.
The Mavericks quickly bounced back with a 17-0 win over Yazoo County before winning 7-5 at Central Hinds.
Wrigley Richardson and Brody Roberts had an RBI each in Monday’s game. Roberts and Edgar both had a hit.
Roberts earned the win for Manchester at Central Hinds with Jon Parker Dees adding two and a third scoreless innings of relief.
Dees led the Mavericks at the plate against Central Hinds with two hits. Joseph Beidleman, Richardson and Jack Miller each drove in a run in the win.
