A suspect wanted in connection to a local apartment complex shooting that left two women injured and a third unknown male victim with possible injuries was apprehended in Warren County last weekend.
John Young was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of attempted murder. Police Chief Terry Gann said more charges are possibly pending as the investigation continues.
Thanks to assistance from the Warren County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Martin Pace, Young was apprehended in Warren County and detained for the Yazoo City Police Department after he fled the community following the incident last Sunday around 6:30 a.m. The shooting occurred at Windsor Court Apartments, formerly known as Graystone Apartments, on West Second Street.
“Two female victims were attacked and shot by either a disgruntled husband or boyfriend of one of the victims,” Gann said. “During the incident, an unidentified male inside the home attempted to stop Young, but he was injured and fled the scene. Young then attacked and later shot the two females.”
The two females received medical attention with one being released as of press time, Gann said. He added that the other female victim remains in the hospital.
“We called the surrounding hospitals to see if any other gunshots wound victims, other than the two females, were reported,” Gann said. “So far, we have no other reports. But we are asking the male who fled the scene to come forward so he can provide us with more information as to what happened inside that apartment.”
Gann said his department has evidence that Young waited outside the apartment home for about two hours before forcing entry inside the home.
“With the cooperation of the public, we were able to locate one of the victim’s phones that the suspect had taken from the scene,” Gann said. “We were able to determine that he was heading into Warren County. Shortly after reaching out to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, they spotted the suspect and detained him without incident. We appreciate Sheriff Pace and his department in their help with locating the suspect and taking him into peaceful custody.”
Gann added that more charges are pending for Young.
