The Yazoo City 8U All-Stars were victorious in competition last week against the Kosciusko All-Stars at the 8U State Championships by a score of 16-15.
In a slugfest that saw Yazoo City total 28 hits and Kosciusko 26, Yazoo City was able to pull away with the one-run win.
Of the 28 hits accumulated, Barrett Lampley and Mason Nicholson accounted for four hits and had three RBIs apiece for Yazoo City. Jordan Johnson also had three hits, including an inside the park home run, and three RBIs in the win.
Other 8U All-Stars with multiple hits were Rhett Reece, Keeton King, Hampton Maygar, John Harris Ashley, Renner Russell, Walt Cox, and John Luke Boatner.
Yazoo City opened the scoring in the first inning when Reece singled to score a run and added to their lead in the top of the third after plating a run on a Nicholson single and a Kosciusko error.
Kosciusko took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the third, but Yazoo City re-captured the lead in the top of the fourth, 10-7, when Maygar doubled to score a run and Lampley tripled to score.
Kosciusko tied the game at 10 in the bottom of the fourth, but Yazoo City inched ahead in the next frame (12-10) and added four more runs in the sixth to take a 16-10 lead.
Kosciusko, however, closed the gap by scoring five runs on seven hits in the sixth, but that’s as close as they would come as Yazoo City closed out the game defensively.
The 8U Stars were just as impressive in the field as they were at the plate, committing no errors in the slugfest.
