Yazoo City High School held its Homecoming celebrations Friday night with Taleah Nelson being crowned Homecoming Queen.
Police Chief Ron Sampson released the following statement about the weekend violence in Yazoo City:
The weekend was filled with chaos and bloodshed in Yazoo City as three separate shootings left two men dead and others injured.
Yazoo County Football Week 9 Panther blow out St. Andrews Yazoo County dominated St. Andrews in the second half of Friday night’s game to take the victory 42-0.
They say all streaks are meant to be broken, and that sentiment finally held true for Yazoo City High on Friday night.

Vivian Merkle

Vivian Nerine Merkle, 99, of Gulfport, formerly of Yazoo City passed away Friday August 9, 2019 at Gulfport Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be Saturday, August 17 at 1 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery with Elder Brian Chisolm officiating.

Jesse Cerda

Jesse M. Cerda, 86, of Yazoo died Wednesday, July 31 in Jackson.

Services will be held Saturday, August 3 at Stricklin-King Funeral Home with Visitation from 2:00-3:00 and funeral following. Burial will follow at Liverpool Cemetery.
