After dropping their season opener to Holmes County Central, Yazoo City High School has now rattled off three straight wins, including Friday night’s 36-13 win over Crystal Springs, to push their overall record to 3-1.

The Mavericks of Manchester Academy continued their season-opening win streak on Friday night with a 56-20 win over Kemper Academy.

The win brought their overall record to 4-0.

Around 50 competitors from several states competed in the Nita Scott Washington Memorial Scrabble Tournament over the weekend at the Hampton Inn in Yazoo City.

 The members of two United Methodist churches have a new pastor, and he is bringing a unique kind of ministry with him.

Defense was the name of the game in the Battle of Yazoo, and it ended up being a special teams play that allowed Yazoo City to break Yazoo County’s winning streak in this backyard rivalry matchup.

James Allen Swan

 James Allen Swan passed away at his home on September 5 surrounded by his family.  He was born on March 29, 1956 in Benton, MS to the late Ms. Lizzle H. Swan and the late Mr. Willie C. Swan. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Water Grove A.M.E.


Otho Walker Jr.

Otho Walker, Jr., affectionately known as "JR", was born to Otho Walker, Sr., and Edie Walker on August 6, 1933 in Mt. Olive, Mississippi.  He was one of five boys and five girls.  He received his education from the Simpson County school system.



Bennie J. McCoy

Bennie J. McCoy, 86, died Sept. 9, 2018 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation will be held at Stricklin-King Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.










Thomas C. Dunn

Thomas C. Dunn, 92, of Fulton, Mississippi, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018 at The Courtyard Nursing Home in Fulton. He was of the Baptist faith and a retired farmer.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Harden.
