After dropping their season opener to Holmes County Central, Yazoo City High School has now rattled off three straight wins, including Friday night’s 36-13 win over Crystal Springs, to push their overall record to 3-1.

The Mavericks of Manchester Academy continued their season-opening win streak on Friday night with a 56-20 win over Kemper Academy.

The win brought their overall record to 4-0.

Around 50 competitors from several states competed in the Nita Scott Washington Memorial Scrabble Tournament over the weekend at the Hampton Inn in Yazoo City.

 The members of two United Methodist churches have a new pastor, and he is bringing a unique kind of ministry with him.

Defense was the name of the game in the Battle of Yazoo, and it ended up being a special teams play that allowed Yazoo City to break Yazoo County’s winning streak in this backyard rivalry matchup.


Bo Walton

James Raymond “Bo” Walton Sr., 67, died August 19, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at Tinsley Baptist Church Thursday morning, August 23. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and the service will follow at 11 a.m.



James Edward Bryant

James Edward Bryant, 65, of Yazoo City entered into eternal life on August 18, 2018.

 Visitation will take place at Scott Memorial Funeral Home on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
