Mavericks win big in first conference game

Manchester Academy continued its winning streak after defeating Greenwood's Delta Streets Academy 64-26 on Friday. 

The Mavericks gained a total of 324 yards on offense in this big conference opener. 

The Lions didn't stand a chance against Manchester's offense, especially Michael Williams who had 3 carries at 40 yards with 2 touchdowns in the game, and scored yet another touchdown on a kickoff return. 

Greyson Winstead also stood out with 5 carries for 50 yards and scored 2 touchdowns for the Mavericks.  John Riley Poe contributed to the score with 3 carries for 15 yards and one touchdown, and also had one scoop and score touchdown for 22 yards. Parks Poe had 5 carries for the Mavericks, gaining a total of 73 yards and scored a touchdown. Dylan Dendy carried the ball once for 21 yards. State Greenlee had 6 carries for 19 yards, and Conner Stevens had 5 carries for 49 yards.

Upton Hitt had a great night on offense, passing 4-4 for 37 yards, and rushing for the Mavericks with 3 carries for 20 yards, and scored a touchdown.

Standing out as a receiver for Manchester was Tres Paul with 2 catches for 23 yards, and Dylan Dendy with 2 catches for 11 yards. Jon Riley Poe had one catch for 9 yards, while Ty Kilpatrick and Parks Poe had one catch for 3 yards each,

On defense in this game, Dylan Dendy stood out with 5 tackles and 3 fumble recoveries.  Jon Riley Poe also stood out with 2 tackles and his 22 yard scoop and score for a touchdown.  Parks Poe, Tyler Bardwell, and Tyler Johnson had 3 tackles each, while Greyson Winstead and Conner Stevens had 2 tackles each.

"This was a big win in our conference opener," said Coach Bryan Dendy. "We have got a tough game this week against Humphreys.  They are a very talented and well-coached football team.  They are 6-0 and playing very well."
