Byrd shines as punter at Millsaps College

Yazoo City native Andrew Byrd is enjoying another successful season as a member of the Millsaps Majors football team.

Byrd, a junior, has been named the Southern Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season.

He earned the honor most recently for his work in a 14-0 win over Rhodes. In that game, Byrd punted the ball 12 different times for an average of 38.4 yards per kick. He had five punts downed inside the 20-yard line, two go for more than 50-yards and a long kick of 56 yards.

Byrd earned his first conference Player of the Week honor after a 281-4 win over rival Belhaven.

In that contest Byrd  punted the ball four times in the game for an average of 41.5 yards per kick. He forced a fair catch twice, and had a long punt of 46 yards.

Byrd is a 2017 graduate of Manchester Academy where he was named Special Teams Player of the Year by The Yazoo Herald for his performance with the Mavericks football team. He is the son of John and Nettie Byrd.
