Police working to build community relationships

The Yazoo City Police Department continues its efforts to build a relationship and connection with the community by hosting a variety of events, as well as forming new alert groups.

During the recent Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, Chief Ron Sampson said the department is in the process of establishing several neighborhood-watch programs within the city.

“We will also be helping our citizens who are going out of town,” Sampson said. “Simply call the department, and we will have regular dispatches to your home to make sure it is safe while you are out of town.”

The police department also held a second National Night Out rally at a local apartment complex to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement.

In other police news, the department issued 262 citations last month and made 54 arrests.

The department continues a number of special operations, including a recent confiscation of illegal gambling machines at a local night club.
