The Junior Auxiliary of Yazoo City hosted a successful community book giveaway outside of Ricks Memorial Library on October 24, 2020, sponsored by BankPlus. Hundreds of new and gently used books were distributed to children in the community as a way to encourage them to read more while engaging in virtual learning at home. This book giveaway is part of the Reading Is FUNdamental program that is promoted by the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc. which encourages the promotion of literacy and improved reading skills in children across the nation. Members of JAYC distributed over 300 books to local children and encouraged them to read out loud to family members and siblings in order to increase confidence in themselves and encourage reading in others. Pictured at the book giveaway are JA of Yazoo City members Chelsie Tate, Mary Margaret Thomas, Heather Jones, and Abbye Mohamed.
