Supporting Conservation in Mississippi
James Cummins, executive director of Wildlife Mississippi, and Marsha Barbour, who serves on the organization’s Board of Directors, spoke to the Yazoo City Lions Club last week about the nonprofit charitable group’s conservation efforts in Mississippi. Wildlife Mississippi focuses on habitat conservation, conservation policy, conservation education and outdoor recreation. A couple of notable projects include the Sky Lake Wildlife Boardwalk near Belzoni that allows the public to view some of the oldest cypress trees in the world and a mitigation project protecting nearly 35 miles of habitat on the Buttahatchie River in northeast Mississippi. Individual annual membership dues are only $35. Learn more about their mission at www.wildlifemiss.org. Barbour and Cummins were the guests of Lion Lynne Wingard.
