The Yazoo County School District is thrilled to announce that Mrs. Julia Andrews-Funchess has been selected to serve as the Assistant Principal at Yazoo County High School.
Mrs. Funchess is married to Mr. Kimble Funchess and they have two wonderful daughters – Kimberlee and Caitlin.
Mrs. Funchess is thrilled to embark on the next phase of her career in education in the role of Assistant Principal at Yazoo County High School. An educator for over 15 years, Julia has served in various positions in exceptional education. Most recently, she serves as case manager and transition coordinator for the YCSD. As well, she has served as a behavior specialist for the school district in that she has extensive training in intervening in challenging behavior scenarios with students.
In terms of Mrs. Funchess’ background and education, she completed an undergraduate Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology from Tougaloo College. Next, seeking an advanced degree, Julia obtained a Master’s Degree in teaching from Belhaven University. Third, still hungry for knowledge and a desire to further her education, she again “went back to school” and earned an Educational Specialist Degree in educational leadership at Mississippi College.
Currently, Mrs. Funchess is back in the classroom again at Mississippi College where she is currently a doctoral candidate. Her dissertation focuses on the perception administrators have of students with disabilities and how it affects student achievement.
Julia’s educational mantra is to make extraordinary educational experiences and opportunities available to each and every child, and she is on a mission to do just that! She looks forward to working alongside members of the Panther family to cultivate a path to success for all students to become “Next Generation Leaders!”
