A Yazoo County woman who made statewide news for getting caught on camera stealing plants from a yard has been sentenced to serve a week in jail.
Jenna Bailey Kirk was sentenced by Justice Court Judge Pam May after being found guilty of stealing several hundred dollars worth of plants.
Sheriff Jake Sheriff said he hopes the reality of some time in jail will prevent future incidents.
Sheriff said he believes this case also deserves attention because it demonstrates that home surveillance systems are becoming more common.
“Security systems are getting more affordable and easier to use,” Sheriff said. “That makes it more difficult to get away with property crimes.”
In addition to security systems Sheriff said there is no better defense than the old fashioned way of neighbors simply looking out for each other and reporting suspicious activity.
