Gunfire erupted in a Yazoo City neighborhood last Tuesday leaving three people hospitalized after a family dispute.
The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Barnwell Street, and one of the female victims remains in a Jackson hospital as of press time.
Investigator Nolan Warrington, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said officers arrived at two locations, 1432 Barnwell Street and 1430 Cleveland Street, in reference to a report of someone being shot.
“The suspect, Calvin Williams, shot his estranged wife and his sister,” Warrington said. “His wife ran to a neighbor’s house on Cleveland Street, where the resident of that home began to perform first aid on her. The sister ran across the street and collapsed with a gunshot wound to her leg.”
Warrington said Williams lacerated his arm due to broken glass at the scene. All three were taken to the hospital with their injuries.
Williams’ estranged wife remained in a Jackson hospital Thursday and was listed in critical condition.
Warrington said a warrant has been issued for Williams, and he will be arrested upon his release from the hospital. He will be charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
Williams made headlines last February when he was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following another shooting incident at the Shell gas station, located at the intersection of Fifteenth Street and Grand Avenue.
