If anyone in town heard the screams and laughter of a very eager child, have no fear. That child was our youngest son, who was receiving his only wish in the whole world.
When the summer season began, the Patterson family was unable to travel as much as we normally do because we took an extended vacation during spring break. After a week-long camping trip in the desert of west Texas, we told our three children that the summer would be low-key. But it would and could still be fun.
My husband Jason and I decided to grant our three children a wish of their very own (within reason, of course).
Our daughter Elsie wanted to attend her first concert, and we were able to get tickets to see the Avett Brothers in Arkansas recently. Our oldest son James wished for a trip to an Ole Miss game, and he will be heading that way next weekend when Ole Miss faces LSU.
But our youngest son Jase surprised us with his wish. He just wanted to head over to the Yazoo County Fair on a solo-trip with just Jason and me. And we were able to grant that wish this past Saturday.
We were at the fair’s main entrance as soon as it opened Saturday morning. We rode every single ride there. I think Jase broke the record of riding the pirate ship over ten times.
Jase was able to rest with a funnel cake and a cold Dr. Pepper. And he spent close to half an hour looking for his artwork inside the livestock barn.
When the fair closed its doors a few hours later, Jase was still on cloud nine. He spent the remainder of the day telling anyone who would listen about his favorite ride and that he didn’t get sick on any of them.
We will return to the fair as a whole family this week. But for one day, my baby Jase was the only kid in the world there.
