Gladys McCormick Landy, 93, of Yazoo City, died on August 15, 2020,
Funeral services were held on August 19, 2020 at the Century Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Allen, of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Landy was born on Feb. 28, 1927 in Lampkin to the late Joseph McCormick and Bessie Budd McCormick. She attended Rose Hill Baptist Church. At the age of 13, her family moved to Yazoo City, where she attended St. Francis Catholic School.
She later moved to New York, and met and married the late Forrest Landy. While there, she worked for the Life Insurance Association of America, the Welfare Department and the Oppenheimer Brokerage Firm.
She returned to Mississippi in 1978 and earned her associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Holmes Community College. She was involved in the Headstart, McCoy and Yazoo County High School Grandparents' Program. She was also manager of the Manna House and participated in two adult daycare programs at First Choice Healthcare and Yazoo County Human Resources.
She loved sewing, crocheting, knitting and quilting, donating over 100 hats to the Cancer Center at UMMC and the Clinton Rehab Center.
She was a long-term member of St. Stephen UMC and served faithfully on the Stewardess Board and Mission Outreach. She loved her church and enjoyed attending Sunday School.
Survivors include daughter-in-law, Patsy Cummings; granddaughter, Terri McCormick; nieces, Myrtis Rucker, Pamela Boone and Sheila Scott; nephews, Andre Ratliff and Daryl Forney; grand nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Nattie Owens.
Honorary pallbearers were the St. Stephen UMC men.
Pallbearers were Rudy Bracey, Christien McIntosh, Maurice Hardnett and Rola Donelson.
