The Yazoo County High School Next Gen Media Team proudly represented the district at the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association (MSPA) Convention, held on October 30 at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS.
The event gathered talented student journalists and designers from across the state to showcase their creativity, media skills, and storytelling abilities.
The Next Gen Media Team made an impressive debut, earning multiple awards and recognitions:
• Jordan Hollins, senior — Best of Show Single Page Design Award
• Jayme Johnson, sophomore — Best of Show Headline Award
• Paige Phillips, sophomore — Finalist, Best of Show News Front Design
In addition to the award winners, Michael Scott and Cassidy Johnson represented the team by attending various media and journalism workshops. They returned home with new insights and techniques that will contribute to the continued growth and advancement of the Next Gen Media Team.
Dr. Shivochie L. Dinkins, the team’s advisor, shared her excitement and pride, stating, “This was the first time our team participated in the MSPA Convention, and I’m extremely proud of the accomplishments our students achieved. We are already gearing up to attend and compete at the Spring Convention that will be held at the University of Mississippi in March 2026. This group of kids shows strong dedication to telling the story of Yazoo County.”
