Bragging rights were on the line Monday night as Benton rolled to a 14-4 win over Manchester and extend their winning streak to three games.
It was the first meeting between the two schools in a long time.
“That’s what makes this game that much more intense,” Benton head coach Brent Woods said. “I think it’s much bigger for the parents than it is the kids.”
The Raiders plated two runs in the top of the first, a wild pitch and a dropped infield pop-up. Benton rallied for three runs in the fourth and seven in the fifth.

Riding a three game winning streak, Yazoo County hit a wall Monday afternoon in a 5-2 loss to St. Joe.
“We did not play our best softball,” head coach Grant Andrews said. “We had so many mental mistakes that cost us some runs.”
The Lady Panthers (3-3) were held to just two hits in the rematch from earlier in the week. “They were making contact with the ball, just hitting it right to their players. Just couldn’t find any gaps,” Andrews said.
Haliegh Rodgers finished with eight strikeouts on the day, she now has 35 on the season.
