Joy Hancock

Joy Ruth Hancock, 81, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 81 years old while under the care of Providence Hospice at Wisteria Gardens Nursing Center.
Funeral services were Sunday Central Baptist Church in Bentonia.
Mrs. Hancock was born in Paris, Texas on Nov. 18, 1928 to the late John and Mamie Bryan. Her childhood was spent there in West Texas where she completed high school at the age of 16 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Electra, Texas.
As a young adult she lived in Gainesville, Texas where she was a member of the First Baptist Church and attended Grayson Jr College.
On April 28, 1973 she married Al Hancock. As an Air Force couple they lived in California, Spain, Oregon and Tennessee where they made their home for 25 years. There she was a member of Boones Creek Baptist Church.
In 2004 they made their way to Mississippi living in Hattiesburg for almost three years. Bentonia became home in 2007 so they could be closer to family. She soon became a member of Central Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Central Baptist Church in Bentonia.
She leaves behind her loving husband Alton (Pete) Hancock.

ELESE HARVEY

Elese Breazeale Harvey died Sat., March 6, 2010 at Highland Home in Ridgeland.
Funeral services were Monday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Cedar Hills Cemetery in Vicksburg.
Mrs. Harvey was born in Meridian Nov, 2, 1919. She moved to Vicksburg as a young child and lived there until 1961 when she moved to Yazoo City, where she lived until 1996.
She was the daughter of the late Richard and Ardath Breazeale and wife of the late Oscar Tillman Harvey. She was a graduate of Carr Central High School and attended All Saints College. Although a homemaker for most of her life, she held various secretarial positions, including First Baptist Church in Vicksburg.
Faithful to her Lord Jesus Christ, she as active in First Baptist Churches in Vicksburg, Yazoo City and Jackson. Loving flowers, she attended and hosted various garden clubs. She also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include six children, Ann H. Wheeless; William T. “Bill” Harvey (Amanda); Linda Dale Graves; Richard A. Harvey (Jeanie); John D. Harvey and Thomas C. Harvey (Gina); 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Churches in Vicksburg, Yazoo City or Jackson, or the Alta Woods Baptist Church in Jackson.

DAVID SPIARS

David Michael Spiars, 38, died Wednesday, March 5, 2010 at King’s Daughters Hospital in Yazoo City.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Lynch officiating. Burial followed at Concord Cemetery with the Rev. David Bryant officiating.
Mr. Spiars was born on May 18, 1971 in Yazoo City to Pete and Patsy Spiars.
He worked as a relief operator at Terra Industries for 17 years. He was also a Methodist.
Mr. Spiars graduated in 1989 from Benton Academy, where he played football and baseball.
He was a supporter and moderator of MSDUCKS.com, the Internet authority on duck and goose hunting in Mississippi. He was an avid waterfowl hunter and enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends. He also enjoyed practicing baseball with his son, Patrick. He attended every sporting event of his son.
Mr. Spiars was a member of the Yazoo Lodge #42 and was a Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason. He was also a Shriner.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Heather Spiars of Yazoo City; son, Patrick Spiars of Yazoo City; parents, Pete and Patsy Spiars of Yazoo City; sisters, Cindy Spiars of Madison and Kim Eakin of Yazoo City; and nieces, Kristen and Natalie Eakin of Yazoo City.
Serving as pallbearers were Herb Moorehead, Jay Nesbit, Mel Jenkins, Brian Reynolds, Tony Osborne and Adam Lyerly.
