Young celebrates fifth birthday
Sha’nyla S. Young celebrated her fifth birthday on January 1, 2009.
She is the daughter of Annette Young and Terell Winters.
She is the granddaughter of Gladys Young and Elizabeth Winters and the late Lee Young Sr.
She will celebrate her birthday with a party at her grandmother’s house with her family and friends.
Lane Branning Wilkinson debuts
Kristopher and Brittany Wilkinson of Madison announce the birth of their son, Lane Branning Wilkinson, on December 8, 2008 at 5:03 p.m. at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
He weighed 9 pounds and was 21 1/2 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Pamela Ferriss and the late Kenny Ferriss and Dude Hilderbrand, all of Bentonia.
Paternal Grandparents are Ricky and Lana Wilkinson of Madison.
Mrs. Wilkinson is the former Brittany Hilderbrand of Bentonia.

Locals earn nursing degrees
Dana Appleton, Jessica Peterson, Leslie Creel all graduated Friday Dec 19 from Hinds Community College with an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing. All three are graduate nurses.
Starlett Davis-Perkins and Alvin S. Barnes were united in marriage on December 21, 2008 at Maynie Avenue Church of God in Yazoo City. Bro. Charles E. Ray officiated the double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Robert “Bobby Jr.” and Patricia L. Perkins of Yazoo City. She is the granddaughter of the late Lottie and Johnnie Hayes of Chicago, the late Charles Lindsay of Chicago and Rosemary Perkins and the late Robert Perkins Sr. of Yazoo City.
The groom is the son of Alvin Henderson of St. Louis and Wilma Young and stepfather Prentiss Young of Yazoo City. He is the grandson of the late Lewis and Magnolia Barnes of Yazoo City.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a champagne satin dress with a flowing train. In her hair, she wore a gold tiara with diamonds. Her bouquet of cream white, french blue and chocolate flowers was designed and made by her sister, Keisha Perkins of Ridgeland. She also wore a pearl necklace.
A reception was held immediately following the ceremony in the church fellowship hall.
Cupcakes were designed into the shape of a wedding cake with buttercream icing and drizzled with chocolate syrup.
Blanche Ray served as wedding director.
The couple will reside in Yazoo City.
Mrs. Barnes is the activity director at King’s Daughters Hospital. Mr. Barnes is a truck driver for SPI.

Wells promoted to staff sgt.
Yazoo City native Ricky Wells cuts the cake during a celebration of his promotion to staff sergeant with fellow members of the 412th Engineer Command in Iraq. His duties carried him throughout remote locations in Iraq throughout the past year. Wells and the Vicksburg-based unit are scheduled to return home.
