PAUL McGINTY
Paul Stanton McGinty, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012.
Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at Center Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Daryl Oster officiating. Burial will follow at Center Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. McGinty was born Feb. 3, 1934 in Yazoo County to Owen and Martha Carley McGinty. He was a yard foreman for Burley Smith Lumber Company and a member of Center Ridge Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine McGinty.
Survivors include his wife, Joycelle McGinty; four sons, Stan McGinty of Bentonia, Keith McGinty of Malta, Montana, Garry Melton McGinty of Yazoo City and John Thomas McGinty of Brussells, Belgium; three daughters, Karen Powell of Yazoo City, Martha Louise Davis of Richland and Ruth Wood of Corbin, Ala.; three stepsons, Ken Smith of Yazoo City, Kevin Smith of Byram and Brian Smith of Yazoo City; a sister, Mary Frances McCoy of California; 16 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

JOYCE ANDERSON
Joyce Marie Anderson, 50, of Yazoo County, died on Dec. 12, 2012.
Funeral services were held Saturday at St. James Church of God in Christ in Vaughan with Elder Samuel Lee Anderson officiating.
Joyce was born on April 4, 1962 in Yazoo County to Rosie Winford Anderson and Joseph Williams.
She was a graduate of Benton High School, class of 1981. She worked as a certified nurse assistant, where she was able to work with senior citizens.
She joined Water Grove AME Church at an early age. She later united with the St. James C.O.G.I.C., where she served as an Assistant Sunday School teacher, choir member, deaconess missionary and was a member of the Missionary Circle. Her favorite song was “I Know the Lord Will Make a Way.”
Survivors include two sons, Joshua and Jeffrey Anderson, both of Yazoo City; granddaughter, Madyson Danielle Bassett; six brothers, Major Anderson, Arthur Anderson, Nathan Anderson, Joseph (Olivia) Anderson, Rickey (Brenda) Anderson, all of Yazoo County, and Zion Anderson of Chicago; seven sisters, Carol Hicks of Europe, Birdie (Henry) Brown, Dorothy Anderson, Lettie Jones, Josephine Anderson, Rosie (Archie) Vanzant, Julia (Anthony) Luckett, Shirley (Christopher) Anderson, all of Yazoo County; two adopted brothers, Williams Luce and Jesse James Brown, both of Yazoo County; an adopted sister, Helen (Elvis) Wilburn of Texas; and a host of family and friends.

DOROTHY HOBSON
Dorothy Lee Hopson, 73, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at King’s Daughters Hospital.
Funeral services were Saturday at First Apostolic Church. Burial followed at Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hobson was born May 6, 1939 in Yazoo City to Jesse and Mittie Smith. She was a 1958 graduate of N.D. Taylor High School and attended Booker T. Washington College of Business in Memphis, Tenn. She was a retired certified nursing assistant of Heritage Manor, where she worked for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters and her husband, George Hobson.
Survivors include her son, David George Hobson (Vanessa); sister, Lillie Mae Robinson; stepchildren, Clara Mae Porter, Georgia Mae Brown and Dorothy Jean Hobson, all of Detroit, Will Roy Hobson of Chicago and Elizabeth Carter of Yazoo City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

JAMES JOHNSTON
James E. Johnston died peacefully in his home in Yazoo City Dec. 13, 2012.
Funeral services were Monday at First Baptist Church.
He was the finest man, the hardest worker, and the best provider many of us will ever have the good fortune to know.
Mr. Johnston was born on May 6, 1926, in Yazoo County, Miss., the fourth of eight  children of Henry Alexander and Tennie Sims Johnston.   
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving during World War II on the USS Guam as a gunner’s mate, and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, with one star, and the Philippine Liberation Medal.     
After returning from the service, Mr. Johnston pursued his lifelong ambition of farming.  He was, throughout his life, a landowner, a cotton farmer and a timber grower. He also worked at Mississippi Chemical Corporation in Yazoo City for 30 years as an operator.  After retiring from the chemical plant, he continued to farm fulltime.  He was also an active member of the Piney Creek Watershed Association.
Mr. Johnston was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Yazoo City, where he was a Sunday school teacher, discipleship leader, and deacon.  He was also a Mason and a Shriner.
He is survived by Hazel Ward Johnston, his wife of 66 years; his son, Travis H. Johnston, of Eden; and daughter, Cheryl J. Matthews, of Clinton.  Also surviving him are five grandchildren: James N. Matthews, Emily J. Quinones, Christer D. Matthews, Alexander L. Johnston, Lucy J. Josey.  He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were siblings Lena J. Hood, Lois J. Reeves, Kathryn J. Pierce, Herbert H. Johnston, Mary Ann J. Burns and Paul W. Johnston.  He is survived by a brother, Fred Johnston.   

LLOYD MCNEAL
Lloyd C. McNeal, 75, of Yazoo City, died on Nov. 23, 2012.
Funeral services were held Nov. 29 at New Covenant Baptist Church in Phoenix, Ill. with Pastor Dr. Richard McCreary officiating. Burial followed in Lincoln VA  National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill. under the direction of W.W. Holts Funeral Home.
Mr. McNeal was born on Dec. 25, 1936 in Yazoo City to Montess Carter and Vernon McNeal.
He graduated from Yazoo City Training School. He then joined the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged. He later received a degree in welding from Greer Technical College. He would then work at Navistar for 42 years.
He married Elizabeth A. Myles. To this union, two children were born.
He accepted Christ at an early age at St. Peter Baptist Church in Yazoo City. Upon his death, he was a dedicated servant for the Lord at New Covenant Baptist Church, where he worked in the Sunday School and Finance Ministries. He also sang in the male chorus for 15 years until his health began to fail a few years ago.
He was preceded in death his parents and sister, Charlean Wade.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Cheryl Renee McNeal of Chicago; son, Lloyd McNeal Jr. of Mesa, Ariz.; three brothers, Robert (Barbara) Ball of Chicago, Melvin (Mary) McNeal of Richton Park, Ill. and Andrew Carter of Yazoo City; sister, Alma J. Hill of Chicago; special brother, Harry Williams of Park Forest, Ill.; special aunt, Irola Williams of Yazoo City; two God children, Quiana Moreno and Diamond Baker; special friend, Deacon Booker Sanders; and a host of family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Ball, Melvin McNeal, Andrew Carter, Johnny Myles, Harry Williams and Lloyd McNeal Jr.
Pallbearers were Charles Cooper, Gerald Myers, Rev. Joe Johnson, Rev. Winston Perkins, Michael McNeal, Charlie Washington and Booker T. Washington.

JERRY WARREN Sr.
Jerry Warren Sr., 72, of Yazoo County, died on Dec. 9, 2012.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Beulah Land M.B. Church with Pastor Johnny Hughes officiating. Burial followed in Cypress Gardens under the direction of Shaffer and Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Warren was born on Feb. 5, 1940 to the late Mr. Dan and Mrs. Martha Christopher Warren in Yazoo County.
He accepted Christ at an early age at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, later joining Beulah Land M.B. Church.
He joined the United States Army in 1962 and lived in Waco, Texas for a short while. He returned home in 1976 and reunited with Beulah Land, where he served in the church as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and custodian until his death.
In 1962, he married Gracie Lee Green and to this union five children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Jerry Warren Jr., and siblings Dave Reed and Rebecca Winters.
Survivors include his twin sister, Jean Warren Robinson; six children, Linda Kay Warren, Karen Faye Warren and Ken Robinson of Yazoo City, Jacqueline (Kevin) Young of Augusta, Ga., Nicholas Warren of Hinesville, Ga. and Terry Jean Travis of Sacramento; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; God daughter, Ebony Preston; and a host of family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Leon Johnson, Robert Robinson, Herbert Scott Jr., Herbert Scott Sr. and Jessie Vaughan Jr.
Pallbearers were Willie Lear, Jairon Scott, Jaimar Scott, Bennie Stewart, Frank Love and Eddie Joe Crockett.

OLIVE ANDERSON
Olive “O” Richardson Anderson, 90, died Monday, December 10, 2012, at Baptist Hospital.
Funeral services were Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial followed at Fletcher’s Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson was born on June 16, 1922, to Lucius Lamar Richardson and Olive Price Richardson in Yazoo City.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, a life member of Yazoo City Junior Auxiliary, and the Yazoo Country Club Ladies Golf Association.
She was a member of the very first marching band at Yazoo City High School, where she played the French Horn and was also Drum Majorette.
One of her favorite pastimes was playing a weekly hand of Bourre with her dear friends, the “Bourre Girls”, with whom she shared countless laughs and many good times.
“O” was well known for her exceptional talent for cooking which paired brilliantly with her rare and special gift of hospitality that will be forever treasured by friends and family as well as anyone who was ever a guest in her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Georgia Katherine; and her husband of 67 years, Melvin “M.R.” Anderson.
Survivors include; a brother, Jack Richardson of Yazoo City; daughters, Ann Cox of Yazoo City; Mary Lee Baker of Grenada; Kay Mills and husband Darell of Yazoo City, a son, Jim Anderson of Benton; grandchildren: Elizabeth Cox Cranford, Scott Baker, Rebecca Cox McWilliams, J Anderson (Summer), LeeAnn Baker Williams (James) Katie Anderson Avery (Brad), Danielle Cox Ginn, Dustin Mills, Jake Mills, and Lee Anderson; and eight great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were J Anderson, Scott Baker, Brad Avery, James Williams, Tom Huff, Sam Powell, John Anderson, and Jason Mathis.

JIMMIE LEE HANKINS
Jimmie Lee Cox Hankins, 65, died Nov. 28, 2012.
Funeral services were Dec. 8 at Ebenezer AME Church.
Mrs. Hankins was born Aug. 21, 1947 in Benton to Dan and Blanche Cox. After graduating high school she moved to Chicago, where she married Fletcher Hankins Jr. She was a member of Faith United M.B. Church.
Survivors include her husband of over 25 years, Fletcher Hankins Jr.; three children, Malissa Cox, Sherry Cox and Sharon Cox, all of Yazoo City; stepchildren, Dianne Hankins, Sherry Fowler and Fretta Powell, all of Alabama; four sisters, Hattie Spann and Helen Williams of Chicago, Carla Collins of St. Louis, Mo. and Bobby Young of Yazoo City; five brothers, Fred Cox (Hazel) of San Antonio, Texas, Robert Cox (Dorothy) of Jackson, Isaiah Cox (Mary Alice) of Bentonia, Sammie Lee Cox of St. Louis, Mo. and Johnny Cox of Yazoo City; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Fletcher Cox, L.C. Cox, Juan Cox, Demarco Cox, Fredrick Cox, Timothy Cox and Mykle Cox.

MARY WOODWARD
Mary Ellen Woodward, 79, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Funeral services were Friday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Ingram officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Woodward was born Nov. 8, 1933 in Yazoo County to Clarence and Pearl Sanders Williams. She was a retired operator for South Central Bell and a member of Tinsley Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sonny Woodward.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim Ketchum of Yazoo City; sister, Pearl Cerda of Yazoo City; brother, Ed Williams of Yazoo City; two grandchildren, Bryce Ketchum and April Ketchum; and three great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Jesse Cerda, Thomas McCoy, Butch Ketchum, Brett Cerda, J Ketchum and Mike Walton.

MELINDA ATCHISON
Melinda V. Atchison, 65, died Dec. 5, 2012 at home.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Atchison was born Sept. 15, 1947 in Yazoo County to John and Ruth Quinn Vancleave. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a son, Leon Atchison Jr. and four brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Leon Atchison of Benton; a daughter, Angie King of Odessa, Texas; a son, James “Jack” Atchison of Benton; sister, Deborah Annette Creel of Yazoo City; brother, Henry Ray Vancleave of Corpus Christi, Texas and six grandsons.

BUSTER FRANKLIN
William “Buster” Herman Franklin, age 56 of Utica died away after a lengthy illness at his home on Wednesday, December 5, 2012.
A memorial service was held Dec. 9 at Utica Christian Church.  
Mr. Franklin was born on March 14, 1956 in Port Gibson.  He went to school in Bentonia and later served in the U. S. Marine Corps.  He spent most of his working life as a long-haul truck driver. He was a member of Utica Christian Church in Utica.  
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Franklin of Zavala, Texas.  
Survivors include his children, Michael and Amanda Franklin of Pearl, Robert Franklin of Yazoo City and William and Crissy Franklin of Pearl: his parents Will T. and Bessie Franklin of Utica and brother, Dennis and Antoinette Franklin of Utica as well as by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

CHARLES HARPER JR.
Charles Nolan Harper Jr., 62, of Yazoo City, died on Dec. 2, 2012.
Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Lincoln Dall officiating.
Burial followed at the Mississippi State Veteran Cemetery in Newton under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mr. Harper was born on July 4, 1950 to Otesia and the late Charles Harper Sr.
He attended St. Francis Catholic School, where he was a member of the band and choir. He received a Bachelor of Science from Jackson State University. He also received a Masters degree from Troy State University.
He later became a member and altar boy at St. Francis Catholic Church.
He was employed as a Human Resource Manager of International Paper Company, Riverwood Corp. and Smurfit Stone Corp.
His military background consisted of Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and Captain in the Army Reserve. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Johnetta Gaylor Harper; mother; sisters, Dorothy (Joe) Roseburgh of Columbus and Sharon Faye (Eddie) Westry of Woodbridge, Va; sons, Marcus (Patricia) Harper of San Antonio, Andrew Harper and Julian Harper of Natchez; and a host of family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Lee Jackson, Don Denard, Patrick Webster, Calvin Smith, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Napolean McGinnis.
Pallbearers were Joseph Thomas Sr., Charles Wallace, Joe Smith, Dr. William Nelson, Dr. William Nelson Jr., Leory Davis, Hebert Knight and Howard Bowman.

CAMILLE HENICK
Camille Matthews Henick, 86, of Yazoo City, died peacefully on December 9, 2012 surrounded by her family.  
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 12 at 1 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Bill Poole officiating. Following the graveside services, the family will receive visitors and celebrate her life at the family home in Yazoo City from 2-4 p.m. Stricklin-King of Yazoo City is handling the arrangements.
A native of Jackson, she was born on June 1, 1926 to the late Dalmah and Alda Montgomery Matthews. A devout Christian, she was a former member of Parkway Baptist Church. She graduated from Central High School in 1944. While attending Mississippi College, she received a Bachelor’s degree with a major in English. After college, she worked at the Mississippi Military District in Jackson from 1951 – 1955.
Camille married Chris Henick, Jr. on February 13, 1955 and became a member of Yazoo City First United Methodist Church. She had a sincere love and unwavering faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. In Yazoo City, she had been a member of the Kings Daughters Auxiliary, Garden Club, Jaycettes, Church Circle, and Bible Study Group.
She loved painting and reading. Camille often said her greatest joy were her children. She especially loved spending time with her six grandchildren, and painting and drawing for each of them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband and soul mate of 52 years, Henry Christopher Henick, Jr., infant granddaughter Carrie Henry, and son-in-law Robert D. Henry of Madison, MS.
Survivors include her son Chris Henick, III of Washington, D.C., and his wife Ingrid Henick, and their children Henry Christopher “Kit” Henick and Simone Aletta Henick; daughter Melanie Henick Henry of Madison, MS, and her children Matthew Timmons Henry and Meredith Hope Henry; and daughter Camille Henick Evans and her husband, John Evans of Ridgeland, MS, and their children Christopher Hewes Evans and Parker Montgomery Evans; sisters-in-law Love Henick Seawright and her husband, Robert Seawright, and Zoe Y. Henick; niece Lisa Lynn Henick; niece Ida Henick Yerger and her husband, Hunter Yerger; two great nieces and one great nephew; and many special friends.
Pallbearers are Henry Barbour, Mark Bardwell, Thomas Hines, Ed Jordan, Burck Stevens and Hunter Yerger.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Continue Care in Yazoo City for caring for Camille for the last several years. We would also like to express gratitude for the best neighbor, Mary Eleanor Galloway.

MARY MOSES
Mary Frances Moses, 89, died Dec. 5, 2012 at her home in Madison.
Funeral services were Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Lincoln Dahl officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Moses was born July 1, 1923 in Louisiana to James Dorris Greer and Thelma Katherine Russell Greer. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel S. Moses.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel S. Moses Jr. of Memphis, Tenn. and Gerald Moses of Boston; two daughters, Pam Harris of Madison and Latifie Harris of Madison; a brother, Joseph Greer; sister, Carol M. Johnson; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Todd Jenkins, Ryan Harris, Owen Moses, Brooks Harris, Stephen Moses and Ken Harris.

EMMA RAUSCHER
Emma Claire Rauscher, 89, of Audubon, N.J., died on Dec. 4, 2012.
Funeral services were held Monday at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church in Jaddon Heights, N.J. under the direction of Foster-Warne Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rauscher was born in Bentonia. She moved to Audubon with her husband in 1944 where she dedicated her life to her family.
She worked in the insurance industry for 23 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Buck” Rauscher.
Survivors include her six children, Claire (Bud) Shoder of Haddon Township, Catherine (Timothy) Lee of Ludlow, Vt., Mary Anne (John) Yeager of Collingswood, Charles (Barbara) Rauscher of West Deptford, Carol (Daniel) Jones of Marlton and Jeanne (Todd) Fryar of Haddon Heights; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Harold (Barbara) Perry of Bentonia.
