JAMES BARRETT
James L. Barrett, 76, of Lexington died Dec. 4, 2012 at University Hospital.
Funeral services were Friday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Busby officiating. Burial followed at Green Lawn Cemetery in Vicksburg.
Mr. Barrett was born April 5, 1936 in Yazoo County to Dewitt and Ellem McClusky Barrett. He was a retired truck driver and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by a son, Troy Barrett; three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his son, Wayne Barrett of Marion, Ark.; two brothers, Paul Barrett and Jessie Barrett, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Retha Tanner and Mary Stokes of Vicksburg, and Dorothy Barrett and Bertha Crist of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

ANNIE SUTTLAR
Annie Frances Washington Suttlar, 83, died Nov. 29, 2012.
Funeral services were Wednesday at Tulane M.B. Church with Rev. Gilbert E. Andrews officiating. Burial followed at Yazoo Memorial Park under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mrs. Suttlar was born Oct. 20, 1929 in Shelby County, Tenn. to Betty Harvey and Herman Washington. She was raised by her grandparents, Alice Knight Wallace and Ruben Jones in Yazoo City. She was a seamstress and a talented cook who published two cookbooks. She was a member of Tulane M.B. Church, where she sang in the choir and served as a member of the Mother Board.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Suttlar Jr.; a sister, Mary Ethel; and a brother,  Albert E. Jones.
Survivors include six children, Debra Evans of Memphis, Tenn., Annie F. Payton of Jackson, Herbert Suttlar III (Deborah) of Little Rock, Ark., Michael D. Suttlar (Remona) of Yazoo City, Karen E. Suttlar of Yazoo City, and Alice M. Suttlar of Jackson; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were McArthur Straughter, Marcus Straughter, Albert Moorhead, Donte Smith, James T. Williams, Hubert Nelson, Cardell Robinson and Terrance Robinson.

IDA MAE DIEW
Ida Mae Diew, 66. died Nov. 14, 2012.
Funeral services were Nov. 24 at New Zion M.B. Church with Rev. Eugene Smith officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Ms. Diew was born July 12, 1946 to Joe and Julia Diew. She was educated in the Yazoo City public school system and was baptized in her early teens.
Survivors include her children, Ernest Diew (Victoria), Sheila Diew, Charles Diew, Lenora Diew, Chatmaine Diew and LaKeisha Diew; siblings, Dorothy Dean Young of Chicago, James Edward Diew, Herbert Diew of Virginia, Robert Diew and Vivian Diew; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

LORA ANN GREEN
Lora Ann Parker-Green, 50, died Nov. 20, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at King Solomon M.B. Church with Rev. Benjamin Hall Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mrs. Green was born May 19, 1962 in Yazoo City to Willie Parker Sr. and Betty Parker. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father; and a sister, Marilyn Parker.
Survivors include her husband, Marty Green; two sons, Verneal Parker of Yazoo City and Venson Scott Jr. of Jackson; two sisters, Francine Rucker (Chris) and Bettie Parker-Scott, both of Yazoo City; four brothers, Willie Parker Jr. of Yazoo City, Norman Parker of Guam, Septimus Parker (Lawanda) of Cordova, Tenn. and Kevin Parker of Lawton, Okla.; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

HORACE JOHNSON Sr.
Horace Johnson Sr., 73, died Nov. 16, 2012.
Funeral services were Nov. 21 at the Church of Christ with Rev. Robert Jenkins Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Yazoo Memorial Gardens under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson was born Aug. 22, 1939 in Yazoo City to Arthur and Maggie B. Johnson. He accepted Christ and was baptized in 1987. He was the owner of Fannie’s Cafe.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Fannie Johnson; two daughters, Cathy Haley (Harvey) of Jackson and Theresa Johnson of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons, Horace Johnson Jr. of Chicago and Douglas Johnson of Yazoo City; stepson, Leroi Smith of Yazoo City; brothers, Arthur Johnson Jr. (Emma), Eugene Johnson, Carl Johnson (Willie Jean), and Melvin Johnson, all of Yazoo City, and James Johnson of Fayettesville, Ark.; sisters, Elsie Gardner of New Orleans, Minnie Turnage (Leonard) of Chicago, Carlean Love of Jackson and Bessie Patrolia (Gregory) of Hammond, La.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

RICKY SCOTT
Ricky Ray Scott, 42, died Nov. 28, 2012.
Funeral services were Sunday at the Yazoo Community Complex.
Mr. Scott was born Jan. 4, 1970 in Yazoo City to Henry and Alma Scott. At age 16 he began an 11-year career as a minister. He was also a builder and a member of the Yazoo East Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He served as a member of the Mississippi Regional Building Committee Number 2.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Scott; mother, Alma Scott; six sisters, Arletha Carter, Henryean Simmons (Maceo), Annie Laura Kelly, Brenda Gail Scott, Melinda Kaye Williams (Fedrick) and Belinda Faye (Curtis); three brothers, James Henry Scott, John B. Scott (Jo Ann) and Charles Edward Scott (Dana) three stepdaughters, Pamela Almore Delong (Thomas), Paula Almore Davis (Terry), and Pashley Almore; five stepsons, Charlie Ray Almore (Darlene), Christopher Almore (Koko), Creighton Almore, Casey Taylor Almore, Clayton Morris Almore; a special son, Mario Jones; and a host of other friends and relatives.

MELVIN TURNAGE
Melvin Turnage, 63, died Nov. 19, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at Big Bethel Baptist Church in Vaughan. Arrangements were entrusted to Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Turnage was born March 9, 1949 in Yazoo County to the late Charlie Lee and Pauline Palmer Turnage. Lucille and Connie Turnage helped in his upbringing until he moved to Chicago at age 15.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Flora Mae Banks; and a brother, Charlie Lee Turnage Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Brooklin Turnage of Yazoo City; two sons, Kenny Brooklin Turnage of Yazoo City and Lenny Brooklin Turnage of Chicago; one other son and daughter; six sisters, Rilla Rene Barton (Henry) of Vaughan, Flossie Turnage and Ida Mae Smith of Chicago, Susie Davis and Kelli Adams of Muskegon, Mich. and Cenola Redmond (Marvin) of Byhalia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

ROBERT ALDERMAN
Robert L. Alderman, 56, died Nov. 27, 2012 at home.
Funeral services were Friday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steven Howell officiating. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery.
Mr. Alderman was born Aug. 9, 1956 in Yazoo County to N.L. and Loraine Harold Alderman. He was a truck driver and a Baptist.
Survivors include his son, Will Alderman of Yazoo City; daughter, Heather Alderman of Arkansas; mother, Loraine Alderman of Yazoo City; two sisters, Lynn Jones and Wanda Douglas of Yazoo City; brother, James Alderman of Yazoo City; and five grandchildren.

MARY BRISTER
Mary E. Brister, 96, died Nov. 28, 2012 at home.
Funeral services were Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. George Woodliff officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brister was born Sept. 30, 1916 in Yazoo County to Jonas P. and Mary Elliot Edwards. She was a retired kindergarten teacher and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Brister.
Survivors include her sons, William H. Brister Jr. of Houston, Texas and John P. Brister of Santa Cruz, Calif.; two daughters, Mary Brister Downey of Jackson and Martha Brister Williams of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Serving as pallbearers were Phil Williams, John Phillips, Griffin Norquist Jr., B Estes and Barry Bridgforth.

CHARLES CORLEY
Charles H. Corley, 73, died Nov. 26, 2012 at home.
Funeral services were Wednesday at Short Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Hutto officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Corley was born Aug. 16, 1939 in Yazoo County to Grover and Annie Bonney Corley. He was a bus driver and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Frances J. Corley of Yazoo City; a son, Brian Bankston of Ackerman; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Niven of Yazoo City; two stepsons, Jonathan Tubbs and Brian Tubbs of Yazoo City; a brother, Don Corley of Yazoo City; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

George Hilderbrand, 63, died Nov. 22, 2012 at home.
Funeral services were Sunday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Purvis and Nathan Carroll officiating.
Burial followed at New Hilderbrand Cemetery.
Mr. Hilderbrand was born Sept. 17, 1949 in Yazoo County to Wallace B. Hilderbrand Sr. and Elora Webb Hilderbrand. He was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his father, W.B. Hilderbrand Sr.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. W.B. Hilderbrand Sr.; wife, Opal Hilderbrand of Bentonia; son, Allen Hilderbrand of Bentonia;  a daughter, Angelica Jones (Jerry); two stepdaughters, Lynda Gary and Teresa Alexander (James), both of Yazoo City; a brother, W.B. Hilderbrand Jr.  (Donna) of Bentonia; three sisters, Kay Guthrie (Skip) and Betty Jennings (Mike) of Yazoo City and Patricia Thrasher (Derrald) of Bentonia; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

JEAN ALEXANDER
Jean Riley Alexander, 66, of Indianola died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at home.
Funeral services were Saturday at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial followed at Indianola Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Alexander was a claims supervisor for Wal-Mart and a member of Mt. Zion Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Mazie Cockrell Roncali; her husbands, Roy H. Riley and Jimmy P. Alexander; a sister, Brenda Joyce Roncali; and a brother, Buford Roncali.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Omarkhail (Peter) of Parsons, Kansas and Pam Johnson (Tony) of Yazoo City; two stepdaughters, Karen Vest (Arnold) and Penny Story (Alan), both of Pontotoc; step-son, Jimmy P. Alexander (JoAnn) of Pontotoc; two sisters, Sara Allen (Estel) of Moorhead and Evelyn West of Leland; two brothers, Tony Roncali (Wanda) and Johnny Roncali, both of Indianola; seven step-brothers; six grandchildren; 24 step grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

MILDRED ARIAS
Mildred Parker Arias, 96, died November 22, 2012 at the Martha Coker Green House.  Graveside services were held November 23, 2012 at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Bentonia with the Rev George Butler officiating.
She was born December 28, 1915 in Harrisville, MS in Simpson County and later in childhood moved with her family to Germania, MS.  She will always be remembered as a true southern lady of grace, her commitment to her family, and her service to others before herself.  She attended Eagle Lake Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Mary Elizabeth Ponder Parker;  her husband and the love of her life,  A. Humberto Arias;  sisters, Dorothy Sadler and Mary May Wesley;  brothers, Berry, Jack, Mulford, Arthur, and F. G. Parker.  She is survived by sister-in-law Maye Parker and a host of nieces and nephews.  The family extends a very special thanks to Dr. Walter Burnett and the staff at the Martha Coker Green House for your wonderful and loving care.

TROY BARRETT
Troy Keith Barrett, 47, died Nov. 21, 2012.

Mr. Barrett was born Aug. 4, 1965 in Vicksburg to James and Laverne Winstead Barrett. He was a welder and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Shawn Pruett Barrett of Yazoo City; daughter, Makensy Grace Barrett of Yazoo City; three sons, Justin K. Barrett of Yazoo City and Jacob John Barrett and Travis Barrett of Vicksburg; stepdaughter, Chelcy Pruett of Yazoo City; stepson, Trey Pruett of Yazoo City; granddaughter, Faith Barrett of Vicksburg; grandson, Will Barrett of Yazoo City;  mother, Lavern Parker (Bobby) of Yazoo City; father, James Barrett of Yazoo City; and brother, Wayne Barrett of Marion, Ark.

DAVID BROADAWAY
David Broadaway, 72, died Nov. 20, 2012 at home.
Funeral services were Friday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryan Abel and Rev. Kerry Burrough officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Broadaway was born Nov. 4, 1940 in Yazoo County to Joseph and Lucy Neely Broadaway. He was a retired production manager for AMCO.
Survivors include sisters, Mary Johnston of Yazoo City and Ann Embrey of Cordova Tenn.; brother, Joe Broadaway of Yazoo City; four nieces; two nephews; great nieces; and great nephews.

JOYBIRD CREWS
Heaven rejoiced earlier this month when welcoming infant Joybird Magnolia Crews, daughter of John Wesley and Leslie Crews of Vaughan.  
She was delivered at River Oaks Hospital in Jackson on November 13, 2012.  
Joybird was laid to rest in a flower garden at her family's home on November 15, 2012.  She was preceded in death by great grandparents, Mrs. Virginia Lee Williams Perry, Mr. Edwin E. Slaughter, Mr. Arlee White, and Mr. Sam Crews.
Joybird is survived by her parents, brother John Wesley "Juni" Crews, Jr.; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Williams, III, of Philadelphia; paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. John F. Crews of Brandon; great grandmothers Mrs. Helen Slaughter of Philadelphia, Mrs. Lillian White of Grenada, and Mrs. Mary Jane Crews of Jackson.  She is also survived by aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Williams of Flagstaff, AZ, Samantha Crews of Nashville, TN, Mr. & Mrs. Scott Schornhorst of Oxford, and cousins Lilly and Sam.

LUCILLE FRIZZELL
Lucille Bridgers Frizzellof Johnson City died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 in Johnson City, Tenn.
She was the daughter of the late Maie Hollingsworth and Thomas Alfred Bridgers. Lucille was born in Yazoo City on Dec. 17, 1925, and lived in Johnson City since 1954. She was christened in Trinity Episcopal Church in Yazoo City and served communion to shut-ins as a Lay Eucharistic Minister for St. John’s Episcopal Church in Johnson City, and was an active member of Central Baptist Church, Johnson City, TN from 1954 until her husband’s death in 1991. In her declining year she regularly attended the Piney Flats Presbyterian Church, Piney Flats, TN.
Lucille was a secretary for U.S. Steel Corp. in Memphis, TN from 1946-1953. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State University in 1977 and received a Master’s degree in Library Science in 1980.  After graduation, Lucille was the librarian at Steed College, Draughons Junior College, and Bristol College.  
Lucille was a past president of the Auxiliary of the Washington-Unicoi-Johnson County Medical Society, a member of the Tennessee Library Association, the Beta Delta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Monday Club of Johnson City, the John Sevier Chapter of the D.A.R, and a charter member of both the Washington County Historical Society and the Watauga Association of Genealogists and served on the board of the AARP Widowed Persons Service of Johnson City and Washington County.
Lucille was married to Byron Waters Frizzell at the Central Christian Church of Memphis, TN, on July 24, 1952.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dr. Byron Waters Frizzell.
Survivors include: her sons, Dr. Peter G. Frizzell and his wife, Martha, of Johnson City; David E. Frizzell and his wife Margaret Ann, of Johnson City; Mark D. Frizzell and his wife Marjorie of Knoxville; eight grandchildren, Jackson Frizzell, Johnson City, and Timothy Frizzell, Desaray Frizzell, Aurora Grace Frizzell, Dominick Frizzell, Barbara Lucille Frizzell, Breanna Frizzell and Luke Frizzell of Knoxville, Tn; and a special sister-in-law, Myra Frizzell of Johnson City.   
Funeral services were Sunday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel under the direction of Rev. R. Willard Warfield and Dr. Elmon Brown. Burial followed Monday in the Monte Vista Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Thomas C. Vanover, Dr. Ashby Clanton, Robert Karl Parker, James Lee Harlan III, Jackson Peter Frizzell, and Timothy Nathan Frizzell.  Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Wellington Place and caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care.

Mr. Hilderbrand was born Sept. 17, 1949 in Yazoo County to Wallace Hilderbrand Sr. and Elora Webb Hilderbrand. He was a truck driver.

EDDIE OLIVER
Eddie Termell Oliver, 33, died Nov. 17, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at Ever Increasing Faith Church of God in Christ in Benton with Elder Charles Jefferson officiating.
Mr. Oliver was born Oct. 17, 1979 to Eddie Lee and Hazel Oliver. He attended Linwood Elementary and Yazoo County High School, where he played football and graduated in 1998. He had several jobs and was a member of Ever Increasing Faith Church of God in Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his mother, Hazel Oliver; fiancee, Annie Davis of Pickens; two sons, Bryant Hardmen and Chandler Hardmen; four sisters, Ora Eulls, Darlene Washington, Tameka Oliver and Legendre Young (Roosevelt), all of Pickens; three brothers, Terry Diew and Eugene Eulls of Pickens and Eric Avery (Kimberly) of Vaughan; and a host of other relatives and friends.

CHARLIE RICHARDSON
Charlie “Sluggie” Richardson, 56, died Nov. 13, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Richardson was born Aug. 7, 1956 to the late J.B. and Bettie Richardson. He attended King School in Linwood.
Survivors include a son, Mario Haney; eight sisters, Velma Bruce of Texas, Lela Richardson of Illinois, Geneva Harris of Texas, Debbie Burns of Illinois, Minnie Alexander of Illinois and Sherry Richardson of Mississippi; two brothers, Nathaniel Richardson of Illinois and Jimmy Richardson of Mississippi; his 19-year love, Annie Mae Woods; and a host of other friends and relatives.

SAMMY SAXTON
Sammy Edward Saxton, 68, of Belzoni died Nov. 20, 2012 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services were Friday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Midway Baptist Cemetery.
Mr. Saxton was born March 7, 1944 in Yazoo County to John F. and Nellie Wiltcher Saxton. He was a retired farmer and a member of Moorhead Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Saxton of Belzoni; two sons, Kelly Saxton and Cory Saxton of Belzoni; two daughters, Penny Jackson of Holcomb and Sandy Johnston of Oakland; brother, Rufus Saxton of Benton; three sisters, Earlene Davis, Billie Hood and Patsy Ward, all of Benton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

FREDDIE WINTERS
Freddie Winters, 70, died Nov. 17, 2012.

Mrs. Winters was born April 10, 1942.
Survivors include two children, Gretta Winters of Yazoo City and Roosevelt Winters Jr. of Covington, Ga.; a brother, Clarence Toney Jr. of Homer, La.; two grandsons, Thoma Winters and Justin Winters; and a host of other relatives and friends.
