MILDRED HARRIS
Mildred Harris, 92, died Jan. 1, 2013 at her home.
Funeral services were Jan. 8 at Tulane M.B. Church with Rev. Gilbert Andrews officiating. Burial followed at Captain Simmons Cemetery in Benton under the direction of Knight & Lindsey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harris was born Jan. 18, 1919 in Yazoo County to Willie and Fannie Allen. One of 13 children, she was raised in the Benton community. She was a member of Tulane M.B. Church, where she sang in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Harris; a son, J.W. Harris; and a granddaughter, Valerie Harris.
Survivors include four children, Nell H. Johnson and Edward Harris (Mary Ellen) of Yazoo City and Robert Harris (Mattie) and William Harris of Chicago; a sister, Creola Whitson (Penny) of Fayette, Ala.; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Deric E. Harris, William Harris, Deric R. Harris, Larry Willis, Reginald Harris and Alexander Marion.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons and trustees of Tulane M.B. Church.

ROOSEVELT HUDSON
Funeral services for Roosevelt “Wolf Lake” Hudson are today at noon at New Zion Multiplex Building. The body will repose in the church Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon.

RANEL MAHONE
Ranel Mahone, 49, died Oct. 15, 2012.
Funeral services were Oct. 20, 2012 at Ogden M.B. Church with Rev. Harry Hunter officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Shaffer & Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Mahone, affectionately known as “Bicycle Man,” was born Nov. 23, 1962 in Bentonia to the late Eddie and Essie T. Mahone. He was educated in the Yazoo County School District.
Survivors include his three sisters, Loretta McCluller, Nancy Williams and Denise Malone, all of Yazoo City; three brothers, Willie Mahone of Houston, Texas, and Curtis Mahone and Johnny Mahone of Bentonia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Walter Johnson, Willie Mahone, David Johnson, Eddie Smith, Shun Williams and Walter Allen.

FOUNT SMITH II
Fount Britt Smith II, 74, died Jan. 16, 2013 at home.
Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Lynch and Rev. Ken Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at the family cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 6, 1938 in Yazoo County to Fount and Lennie Wilburn Smith. He was a farmer and a member of Black Jack Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dian Smith of Yazoo City; two sons, Fount Smith III and Wilburn Smith of Yazoo City and four grandchildren, Cara Nicole Smith, Dalton Casey Smith, Wilburn Christopher Smith and Hunter Mason Smith.

FRANCES QUIMBY
Frances C. Quimby, 65, died Jan. 14, 2013 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were Thursday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Bryant and Rev. Doug Broom officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Quimby was born Sept. 3, 1947 in Yazoo County to Monroe and Florence Jones Chisolm. She was the head bank teller for Bank Plus and a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Chisolm.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Quimby of Yazoo City; two stepsons, Billy Quimby (Susan) of Tallulah, La. and Tommy Quimby of Vicksburg; a sister, Barbara Quimby of Benton; two brothers, Marvin Chisolm and Jimmy Chisolm, both of Yazoo City; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Bryan Jones, Scooter Griffin, John Chisolm, John Simmons, Jet Griffin and Bert McDaniel.
Honorary pallbearers were David Hayes, Roy Heidel, Kennith Helton, George Moore and Eddie Joe Winters.

ANTONIO WHITE Jr.
Antonio Deonta White Jr., infant, died Jan. 11, 2013.
Funeral services were Wednesday at Scott Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. John H. Scott officiating.
Antonio was born Nov. 22, 2012 to Sabrina Henderson and Antonio White Sr.
Survivors include three siblings, Takera Henderson, Phillip Henderson and Corey Collins Jr., all of Yazoo City; paternal grandparents, Anderson Luckett of Bentonia and JoAnn White of Yazoo City and maternal grandparents, Sammie Henderson of Clinton and Roberta Lomax-Nutall of Memphis, Tenn.

VERNON WOODS
Vernon Wayne Woods, 77, died Dec. 31, 2012.
Funeral services were Jan. 6 at Satartia Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Duggan officiating.
Mr. Woods was born March 25, 1936 to Edgar S. and Ada Lowery Woods. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a carpenter and a member of Satartia Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda H. Woods of Yazoo City; daughters, Vern Woods of Yazoo City and Tamara Kern of Pearl; sisters, Flora Hicks of Jackson, Mamie Lee of Vicksburg and Jay Grambling of Greenville; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

JACK BAILEY
Jack Norman Bailey, 73, of Paris, Ark. died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 in Fort Smith, Ark.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Paris Freewill Baptist Church. Burial followed at Baxley Cemetery in Paris, Ark.
Mr. Bailey was born in Yazoo County in Mechanicsburg to William Earl “Pete” and Dolly Thrash Bailey. He worked as a salvage diver, river boat captain, heavy duty diesel mechanic, master electrician and truck driver in Louisiana and Arkansas. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Arkansas.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou Bailey of Paris, Ark.; two daughters, Darleen Reed-Hawkins of Fayetteville, Ark. and Jackie Eileen Bailey of Paris, Ark.; four sisters, Sue “Beaky” Bailey Labela of Waggaman, La., Brenda Bailey Ford of Oakwood, Texas, Thelma Bailey Foster of Bentonia and Marilyn Bailey Dunn of St. Rose, La.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Eddie Stinnett, Dale Gilbreath, Brad Curtis, Wes Powell, Mike Moffett and Jimmy Hardin.

SAMMALE LEE
Sammale “Sammie” Lee, 54, died Jan. 5, 2013.
Funeral services were Saturday at Century Funeral Home with Rev. E.L. Brown officiating. Burial followed at Valley Home in Holly Bluff.
Mr. Lee was born July 24, 1958 to the late Robert and Ora D. Lee in Indianola. His job skills of masonry, painting, sheet rock, building and carpentry were obtained as an apprentice. He was a member of Tulane Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sisters, Bernice Vaughan (Jessie) and Hilda Lee of Yazoo City, Betty Jean Lee of Jackson, Georgia Wilson Hamlin of Collins, Joyce Lee of Indianola and Gloria Wilson of Los Angeles; four brothers, Roger Lee and Bobby Joe Wilson of Yazoo City and Nelson Lee and Robert Lee of Indianola; and a host of other relatives and friends.

STANFORD PEPPER
Stanford W. Pepper, 65, of Vaughan died Jan. 13, 2013 at Specialty Hospital.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Black Jack Baptist Church with Rev. David White officiating. Burial followed at Black Jack Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Pepper was born Oct. 5, 1927 in Oakland to Harry Ward Pepper and Julia Royal Pepper. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and a retired accountant with Mississippi Power & Light.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Pepper of Vaughan; a daughter, Kathy Roberts of Benton; two sons, Stan Pepper (Becky) of Ridgeland and Donnie Pepper (Dianne) of Vaughan; a sister, Helen Olinger of Long Beach; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

JANICE TOLBERT
Janice LaShaye Tolbert, 34, died Jan. 4, 2013.
Funeral services were Saturday at King Solomon M.B. Church with Rev. Benjamin Hall officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.

Braylon was born Jan. 3, 2013 and died at 10:45 a.m.

MANDY WILLIAMS
Mandy Tyler Williams, 37, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2013.
Mrs. Williams was born Thursday, May 15, 1975 to Alyce Melton Tyler and the late John W. Tyler.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Tyler III.
Survivors include her mother, Alyce Melton Tyler; a son, John Austin Bennett; a daughter, Mallory Marie Williams; two sisters, Dana Tyler and Jana Tyler Bennett; and a host of other relatives and friends.

LOUVICA DAVIS
Graveside services for Miss Louvica Davis will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2012, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Auburn, AL. The Rev. James C. Pappas III will officiate.
Miss Davis, age 85, who was born November 10, 1927, died on December 27, 2012, at Salem Nursing Home in Tuskegee, AL.
She is preceded in death by her father, Reuben Grady Davis, and her mother, Helen Dick Davis.
She is survived by her brother, Nicholas D. Davis and wife Carolyn, of Auburn; her niece, Jennifer Davis Michael and husband James C. Pappas III, and their son James C. Pappas IV, all of Sewanee, TN; nephew Nathan D. Davis and wife Sylvia, of New York City; and numerous cousins and friends.
Miss Davis spent the first half of her life in the towns of Carter and Yazoo City, moving to Auburn in 1973 with her mother to be close to her brother's family and to watch his children grow up. She was devoted to children and spent her life caring for them. She delighted in friends, family, babies, pets, holidays, and letter-writing, and was often seen knitting a baby blanket or afghan to give to a relative or friend.
For many years Miss Davis kept the nursery at Auburn United Methodist Church, where she loved the children and regarded them as her own. She was always helpful, kind, patient, and cheerful, and she will long be remembered as a unique and loving person.

MATTIE THOMAS
Funeral services for Mattie Kirk Thomas will be today at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill M.B. Church.
Survivors include her children, Marshall Thomas, Joseph C. Thomas Sr., Mary Alice Geralds, Mattie Johnson, Rev. Larry Thomas, Walterine Payne and Annie C. Thompson.

CAROLYN CLARK
Carolyn Clark, 55, died Dec. 30, 2012.
Funeral services were Saturday at St. Matthew Church of God in Christ with Rev. Bernard Luckett officiating.
Mrs. Clark was born Sept. 2, 1957 in Yazoo County to the late Willie D. and Luvenia Clark. She was a well known seamstress and a member of Mount Moriah M.B. Church.
Survivors include her four children, LaWanda Winters (Timothy), Azizi Clark, Zelthia Clark and Eddie Clark (Jacqueline); brothers, Nathaniel, Willie D. Jr, Leandrew, Wayman, Larry, Wendell and Anthony; sisters, Fannie Bell, Betty, Gwendlean, Shirley, Kim, Alice, Cherry, Ruth and Matilda; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

BILL CUMMINGS
Cecil G. “Bill” Cummings, 82, died Dec. 31, 2012 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were Thursday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Richardson officiating. Burial followed at Short Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Cummings was born Aug. 14, 1930 in Yazoo County. He was a retired maintenance worker for Mississippi Chemical Corporation and a member of Sallis Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Cummings; two sisters, Bettye Manor and Joyce Russell; and a brother, Harvey W. Cummings.
Survivors include Steven W. (Cathy) Cummings of Sallis; grandson Stephen C. Cummings of Sallis; granddaughter Cecilia (Daniel) Barnhill of Ethel; two brothers, George W. Cummings Jr. and David Cummings of Yazoo City; and a sister, Jane (James) Gordon of Yazoo City.

JOHN LAMPKIN Jr.
John L. Lampkin Jr., 60, died Dec. 24, 2012.
Funeral services were Sunday at New Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Bentonia with Rev. Clarence Blackmon officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Lampkin was born Feb. 3, 1952 in Midnight to the late Bertha Lee Carter and John L. Lampkin Sr. He was employed as a baker for the Butternut Baker Company for 37 years.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie and Calving; sister, Bernice; and a set of twin siblings.
Survivors include his children, John L. Randy and Chandra; siblings, Beatrice McCray (Danny), Rev. Tommy Lampkin (Patsy), Annie Aquila-Berillo and Tyrone Lampkin, all of Cincinnati, Linda Gary of Crestview Hills Ky., Paul Lampkin (Kimberly) of Union, Ky., Freddy Lampkin (Janice) of Delran, N.J., Geraldine Lampkin, Cynthia Gainwell (Napoleon) and Yolanda Lampkin, all of Bentonia; three grandsons; and a host of other relatives and friends.

CYNTHIA MILLER
Cynthia Stewart Woods Miller, 88, died Jan. 3, 2013.
Funeral services were Sunday at New King Solomon M.B. Church with Rev. Gregory A. Robertson officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mrs. Woods was born Nov. 5, 1924 in Yazoo County to Emma Taylor Johnson and Burton Woods. She was a cosmetologist before becoming a physical therapist, where she worked with Veteran’s Administration hospitals in Chicago and Jackson before retiring. She enjoyed a lifelong love of gospel music, and is credited with forming the Angelic Mass Choir in Yazoo City in the late 1980s. She was also a volunteer for the Foster Grandparent Program, a tutor, and an agent for Century Burial Association for over 20 years.
Survivors include god-daughters, Andrea Rucker and Cynthia Walker (Larry); and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Ed Carter, Billy Paige, Carl Fleming, A.C. Smith and Gilbert Hollins.
Honorary pallbearers were Chuck Espy, Joseph C. Thomas Sr., Dr. William Nelson and Charles Little.
