ERNESTINE DROGE
Ernestine R. Droge, 72, of Bentonia, died Feb. 24, 2013 at her home.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Droge was born on March 19, 1940 to Albert Robertson and Graceleen Morris.         
Survivors include her husband, Ronal Droge of Bentonia; son, David Droge (Kristie) of Bentonia; two grandchildren, Sarah and Michael Droge of Bentonia; and two great grandchildren, Anna Beth and Ellie Grace Merrell.

GEORGIA DAVIS
Georgia Davis, 56, of Yazoo City, died Feb. 26, 2013.         
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Triunion Cemetery under the direction of Knight and Lindsey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Davis was born on Aug. 28, 1957 in Yazoo County to John Allen and Lizzie Simmons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Prentiss Davis III; and daughter, Latoria.
Survivors include her three sons, Prentiss (Regina) and Tommie (Deira), both of Benton and Terrence (Ameica) of Jackson; daughter, Sonya of Yazoo City; mother, Lizzie Lacey of Benton; sisters, Ammie (Omar) of Clinton, Angie and Jackie of Yazoo City, Nancy, Georgiareen, Rebecca, and Catherine of Benton; brothers, George (Ruby) of Benton, Sammie (Sarah)  Bay Springs, and James and Leonard of Yazoo City; two uncles, Jimmy (Fannie) of Jackson and Frankie of Chicago.

ROSALIND MORRIS
Rosalind “Ros” Morris, 68, died Feb. 27, 2013 at her home in Clinton.
Funeral services were held March 1 at Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton. Graveside service and burial followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Aberdeen under the direction of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her father Ellis E. Harris and sister Jenny Ruth Harris.
Survivors include her mother, Vergie M. Harris of Aberdeen; sons, John W. Morris (Angela) of Tunica,  Thomas J. Morris of Frisco, Texas, and David S. Morris (Julie) of Bolton; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.  

BILLIE REMINGTON
Billie Saunders Remington, 89, of Prattville, Ala. and formerly of Yazoo City, died Feb. 26, 2013 at Prattville Health and Rehabilitation Center.  
Funeral services were held March 1 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David E. Gilbert officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Her highest calling was as a faithful wife, mother, and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Harry C. Remington Jr., a daughter, Trudy R. Roberts, and a brother, Bobby Ray Saunders.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Bell (William), of Prattville, Ala.; two sons, Dr. John Remington (Jan) of Wilmington, NC and Hank Remington (Elizabeth) of Yazoo City; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Mrs. Remington’s grandsons, Joel Bell, Stephen Bell, Andrew Remington, Jeremy Roberts, Eric Remington, Patrick Remington, and Jeffrey Remington.  
The deacons of Second Presbyterian Church were honorary pallbearers.

MEDA TAYLOR
Meda A. Taylor, 93, of Vicksburg died Feb. 21, 2013 at River Region Hospital in Vicksburg.
Funeral services were Feb. 25 at Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sonny Bradshaw officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Taylor was born on July 11, 1919 in Yazoo County to Benjamin Sadler and Marion H. Foster. She was a retired E&W supervisor and seamstress.
Survivors include her three sons, Scotty Taylor (Jane), Gwin Taylor (Linda), and Jim Taylor (Pat); six grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were John Taylor, Tom Taylor, Kelly Wilkerson, Jim Taylor, Jason Wood, and Mary Hilderbrand.

PHRONIA TUSSEY
Phronia Wade Acey Tussey, 94, of Yazoo City, died at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland on Feb. 23, 2013.
Funeral services were Feb. 26. on her 95th birthday, at Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Caleb Clark officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery
Mrs. Tussey was born in Holmes County Feb. 26, 1918 to Fred Z. Wade and Clara Bell Hale. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  She worked at Ely & Walker Factory for 25 years. She was known as the “Avon Lady,” having sold Avon for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Jeanette Straus of Pearl and Charlene Ray of Bridge City, Texas; grandson, Randy Day of Pearl; granddaughter, Joy Barnes of Pearl; great granddaughter, Stacey Perry of Carthage; and her first husband, Norman Charles Acey.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Tussey; three daughters, Billie Day of Yazoo City , Bonnie Acey of Pearl, and Johnna Freeman of LaVonia, Georgia; brother, Paul R. Acey of Jackson; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Jim Freeman, Bryan Powers, David Scott, Justin Powers, Vincent Ray, and Jeff Ray.

CHARLES SAXTON
Charles Gary Saxton, 55, of Benton died Feb. 23, 2013.
Funeral Services were Feb. 26 at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Arlie Francis officiating. Burial followed at Midway Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Saxton was born Feb. 9, 1958 in Yazoo County to Charles F. Saxton and Billie Porter. He worked in maintenance at Casey Jones Water Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles F. “Buddy” Saxton.
Survivors include his wife, Mona Saxton; son, Garan Saxton of Benton; sister, Kathy (Mike) Atkinson of Benton;  mother, Billie P. Saxton of Benton; great granddaughter, Catherine Rivers Saxton; two nieces, Lindsey and Amy Adkinson; and a great niece, Braelynn Sumrall.
Serving as pallbearers were Tommy Boatner, Roger Davis, Darrell Malone, Chase Cage, David Ketchum, Dale Porter, Jeff Ward, Ward Coleman, and Billy Jones.

CLARENCE BERRY
Clarence Edward Berry, 63, of Bentonia, died Feb. 12, 2013 at the G.V. Montgomery V.A. Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services were held Feb. 19 at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church with Rev. Charles Bradley officiating. Burial followed at New Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer-Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Berry was born on April 9, 1949 to Richard and Nettie Polk Berry.
He accepted Christ at a young age and united with New Pleasant Grove M.B. Church. He later united with Pleasant Grove Church, where he served as a greeter until his health failed.
He received his early education at Kelly Elementary and graduated from Gibbs High School in 1968, where he was a star football player.
He was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 where he served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He re-enlisted in the Amry while in Indiana and was again honorably discharged in 1973. He was employed with Hattiesburg City Waterworks until he retired in 2007.
He married Beulah Faye Willis, and they had three children.
In 2008, he reunited with his high school sweetheart, Earnestine Watkins.
Survivors include his companion, Earnestine Watkins; three daughters, Alisha of Hattiesburg and Tonya and Chandra (Cleveland) of St. Louis; sister, Lola Winfield of Chicago; six brothers, Richard (Minnie Mae), Albert, Michael, (Sandra) of Detroit, Jim (Mattie), Bruce (Kathy) of Jackson, Don (Angela) of Bentonia; adopted brother, Joe Loui of Yazoo City; aunt, Lottie Mae Berry of Revana, Ohio; eight grandchildren; ten sister-in-laws; eight brother-in-laws; special niece, Barbara Banks; and a host of family and friends.

FANNIE EUBANKS
Fannie Mae Eubanks, 80, of Yazoo City died Feb. 11, 2013.
Funeral services were held Feb. 16 at the Word of Faith Christian Center with Pastor Edward Taylor officiating. Burial followed at Cypress Gardens  under the direction of Shaffer-Collins Funeral Home.
Fannie Mae was born on Apr. 26, 1933 to the late Rhoda (Toto) Crenshaw Owens and the late Cleveland Owens Sr. in Benton.
She moved to New Orleans in 1963 and worked there until her health failed her.
She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age but as she got older she rededicated her life to Christ by being baptized with the Holy Ghost.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Eubanks Sr.; children, Lil Fannie Eubanks, Catherine Eubanks, Joseph Eubanks Jr., and Bobby Eubanks; and one brother, Cleveland Owens Jr.
Survivors include her children, Larry and Jean Owens and Rosemary Eubanks of New Orleans, Henrine Eubanks Cage and Jessie Cage of Yazoo City, Patricia Guillory of Manvel, Tx; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Jones Eubanks of Gonzales, La; sisters-in-law, Pearl Davis and Willie Mae Sneed, both of Yazoo City; 22 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

THOMAS HARRIS
Thomas Joseph Harris, 78, of Ridgeland, died Feb. 20, 2013 at Hospice Ministries.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 22, at Louise Methodist Church with Rev. Rudy Herrington officiating.  Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home.
Mr. Harris was born in Yazoo City on Jan. 22, 1935 to Joseph C. Harris and Mildred Pepper. He was a retired farmer and ginner.
Survivors include his son, Scott Harris ( Elizabeth) of Benton; daughter, Valerie Hodnett (Tim) of Anguilla; brother, Garnett Harris of Brandon ; cousin, Roy Ruby of Starkville; and 3 grandchildren.

ROBERT JONES
Robert Lee Jones Sr., 65, of Bentonia, died Feb. 13, 2013 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services were held Feb. 16 at New Pleasant Grove Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Clarence Blackmon officiating. Burial followed at Old Concord Church Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer-Collins Funeral Home .
Mr. Jones was born April 10, 1947 in Bentonia to Mckinley Sr. and Maggie Burnside Jones.  
He was employed with W. E. Red Hancock until his health failed him.  
He accepted Christ and joined New Pleasant Grove M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. N.C. Taylor.  Robert attended Gibbs High School .
He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Elsie (Hurbert), Jimmie Lee, Leonard, Rusia and Regina .
Survivors include his wife, Glossie; daughter, Joyce Burton; son, Robert Jones Jr. (Lasharn); nine grandchildren; three brothers; five sisters; brother-in-law; sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

THOMAS LACEY
Thomas Anthony Lacey, 71, of Ebenezer, died on Feb. 16, 2013.
Funeral services were held Feb. 16 at Holy City Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy Gibson officiating. Burial followed at Tye Cemetery in Benton   under the direction of Shaffer-Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Lacey was born Jan. 14, 1942 in Yazoo County to the late Walter and Bernice Lacey.  He worked hard in the agricultural field to support his family.  
His love for the sport of baseball led him to form softball teams throughout the community.  
Thomas accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Church .
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and his grandson, Jamie.
Survivors include his wife, Lizzie Richardson-Lacey; two children, Ammie (Patrick) Rayburn, and Angie Lacey-Stiff; three children he raised as his own; four sisters; seven grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three aunts; one uncle; and a host of nieces and nephews.

JAMES POWELL
James Powell, age 72, passed away Wednesday February 20th, 2013 at St. Dominics Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held 5:00pm until 8:00pm Friday February 22nd, 2013 at Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Blvd. Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Saturday February 23rd, 2013 from the Chapel of Lakewood Funeral Home with interment and graveside to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinon Blvd.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wives, Sylvia Burrough Powell and Cleo M. Harris Powell, parents, brothers, and sisters. Mr. Powell was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Phoenix, MS. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam from which he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He loved God, Family, Friends, and his Country.
He is survived by: daughters, Barbara Ann Henderson (Ken) and Jenny Taylor (Stacy); sons, Daniel Burrough (Patti), Tim Burrough (Regina), John Powell and Robert Powell; Grandchildren, Kenneth (Kaylee), Kevin, Heather (Shaun), Brittany, Dalyn, Ashley, Heatherly (Chad), Haley, Joshua, Chelsea, Austen, Christopher, and Scott; Great grandchildren, Madeline, Anna Catherine, Collier Rhea, Timothy Iasaih, and Mackenzie Lynn; and a host of relatives and friends.

JUANITA TAYLOR
Juanita Taylor, 82, of Alberta, Ala., died on Feb. 21, 2013 at Select Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Feb. 22 at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Whit Holmes officiating.
Mrs. Taylor was born April 20, 1930 in Yazoo County to Walter  Pitt and Emma Warmack.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her brother, David Ledbetter.
Survivors include her two sons, Jesse Griffin of Altanta and Richard Griffin of Mobile; daughter, Karen Huelskamp of Indianapolis; stepdaughter, Cheryl Hammack of Josphine, Ala.; sister, Eloise Sith of Benton; brother, Walter Pitt of Louisville; and three grandchildren.

PHYLLIS BEARD
Phyllis Annette Beard, 52, of Benton, died Feb. 11, 2013 at her home.
Funeral services were Feb. 14 at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Midway Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Beard was born Aug. 9, 1960 in Madison County to Charles and Dorothy McCool Saxton. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, James M. Morgan of Benton; two daughters, Brooke Nicole Hawthorned of Brandon and Toni Hardy of Brandon; two sisters, Jennifer Gaylord of Macon and Samantha Blalock of Meridian; a brother, John Moss of Durant; and five grandchildren, Nathaniel Warrell, Carlee Warrell, Bud Warrell, Sean Gill and Joshua Langston.

BETTY CLARK
Betty June Clark, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Funeral services were Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Chapel Cemetery in Petal under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Clark was born May 9, 1926 in Petal to Paul Wilburn Morris and Genevia Virginia Copeland Morris. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Clark.
Survivors include a son, Robert David Clark of Brandon; two daughters, Sharon Clark Byrd of Ridgeland and Martha Clark Mitchell of Brandon; a sister, Rosemary Bryant of Shreveport, La.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Brandon Mitchell, Dustin Mitchell, Blythe Byrd, Clark Mitchell, Jared Clark and Gregory Morris.

EDDIE GREEN
Eddie Lee Green, 72, died February 12, 2013.
Funeral services were Saturday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Vaughan with Bishop Michael B. Nesby officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers were Moses Gordon, Steve Davis, Melvin Mosely and Albert Woodberry.
Honorary pallbearers were Terrell Green, Kenneth Green, Michael Green, David Green, Joseph Green, Donnell Green, Henry Williams Jr., Hubert Green and Jason Proctor.

MARGARET MAGEE
Margaret A. Magee, 60, died Feb. 17, 2013 at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Wayne Dillon officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Magee was born Dec. 24, 1952 to Jack Lee Glascoe and Margaret Francis Cessna Glascoe. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Edwin Magee of Tinsley; two sons, Edwin Dent Magee III of Jackson and Timothy Wayne Magee of Jackson; parents, Jack Lee and Margaret Francis Glascoe; two sisters, Donis Shields of Tinsley and Susan Glascoe of Yazoo City; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

JESSE McGRUDER
Jesse James McGruder, 73, died Feb. 11, 2013.
Funeral services were Saturday at Union Second M.B. Church in River Rouge, Mich. with Rev. Kenneth L. Brown officiating. Burial followed at Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit.
Mr. McGruder was born Oct. 11, 1939 in Yazoo City to Houston and Emdell McGruder. He was the sixth of 14 children. He graduated from Yazoo City Training School in 1961. He moved to Detroit in 1968 and worked with Chrysler Corporation and General Dynamics until he retired in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mae Bryant McGruder; three sons, Jesse Jr., Kenneth (Octavia) and Dwayne; five daughters, Beverly (Thomas), Carolyn, Sarah, Pearlie and Regina; five brothers, Thomas Sr., Malachi, Nathaniel, Alfonzo and Ike (Linda); four sisters, Johnny B. (William), Patricia Ann, Jo Juanita and Annie Francis; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Donald Evans II, Bryant McGruder, Thomas Mitchell Jr., Brandon McGruder, Kedric Mitchell and Terrance Warren.

ZERIA TAYLOR
Zeria Mae Woods Taylor,
Funeral services were Saturday at St. Matthew Church of God in Christ with Rev. Charles Thurman officiating.
Mrs. Taylor was born Jan. 13, 1947 in Vaiden to O.Z. and Pauline Woods. After graduating from McNair High in Belzoni, she moved to Yazoo City in 1966. She was employed for many years with Delta Pride Catfish in Belzoni and Yazoo Industrial in Yazoo City until her husband’s health failed and she became his caregiver. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd D. Taylor.
Survivors include her son Willie Jones (Michele) of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Joyce Ann Rankin (Frank) of Upland, Calif., Mable Grayson (Frank) of Dolton, Ill. an Clara Roger of Chicago; five brothers, Willie Woods (Katherine) of Spring Lake, N.C., Cornelius Woods (Sharon) of Chicago, Clyde Woods (Lola) of Kalamazoo, Mich., Eddie Woods (Corine) of Chicago and Roy Woods of Isola; stepdaughters, Beulah Jefferson, Carrie Felton (Robert) and Betty Taylor, all of Yazoo City; stepsons, J.C. Taylor and John Taylor (Letha Ann) of Jackson, James Taylor (Patricia) of Yazoo City, Roosevelt Taylor (Carolyn) of Madison and Rickie Taylor of Wilmington, Delaware; two granddaughters; and a host of other relatives and friends.

KIMBERLY THOMAS
Kimberly Plechette Thomas, 39, died Feb. 11, 2013 at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were Saturday at Community M.B. Church with Rev. Larry Thomas officiating.
Ms. Thomas was born March 19, 1973 in Vicksburg to Herbert Moten and Mary Alice Thomas. She was a member of Community M.B. Church, where she served as pianist until her health failed.
Survivors include a daughter, Kiara Thomas; son, Demarcus Thomas; mother Mary Alice Thomas, sister, Angela Geralds, all of Yazoo City; two brothers, Henry Geralds (Mikita) of Ridgeland, Darnell Geralds (Tasha) of Jackson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
