ADA BRASE
Ada Hood Brase, 85, formerly of Yazoo City, Mississippi, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 12:46 p.m., at her home in Saginaw, Texas.  She died peacefully in her sleep with her eldest daughter, Elizabeth, by her side.
A memorial service will be held at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City on Saturday, April 6th, 2013.  Visitation is at 10 a.m., with the service at 11 a.m. and a graveside service to follow.
Born in Sunflower County, Mississippi, Ada moved with her mother and family to Yazoo City, Mississippi, in the 1940s.  Later, she moved to the Mississippi Gulf coast where she met her future husband, Louis C. Brase, originally of Edwardsville, Illinois.  Together, they lived and raised their family in Biloxi until the children went to college.  The Brases then moved to San Angelo, Texas, before eventually retiring and moving back to Mississippi, settling in Ridgeland.
Mrs. Brase was a very loving and devoted wife and mother; and she was much loved by those who knew her.  She was a talented homemaker, especially gifted in the kitchen.  She was a longtime member of the Methodist church and worked for many years as church secretary for two congregations.  She was also a voracious reader and a collector of classical music.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Nettie Gilmore Hood, siblings, Johnny, Wilmer, Otis, Ethel, Lucille, Florence, Lawrence, and J.W., and her husband Louis C. Brase.  She is survived by her children Elizabeth Brase, James and Sandy Brase, and Joe and Rebecca Forbes, grandchildren, Ada and Will Forbes, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

DOROTHY STEWART
Dorothy Vaughn Stewart, 88, of Jackson died March 17, 2013.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 23, at Morning Star Baptist Church in Jackson with Rev. John R. Johnson Jr. officiating.  Burial followed at Garden Memorial Park under the direction of Shaffer and Collins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Stewart was born Sep. 26, 1924 in Bentonia to the late Homer and Estella Vaughn.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age with New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Bentonia. She later moved to Jackson, where she united with the Morning Star Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Stewart; her son, Franklin Stewart; four brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Estella Robinson (Rayford C.); one son, Homer J. Stewart (Christine); one daughter-in-law, Bettie Stewart; one devoted nephew, Melvin Davis (Eunice); one devoted niece, Virgie Griffin; two sisters, Minnie Schaffer and Eura Vaughn; grandchildren, Zachary Robinson (Flora), Tim Robinson, Regina Phipps (James), Rayford C. Jr. Robinson (Capucine), James Carter (Heather), Shana Stewart, Phaedra Collins, Hiawatha Stewart, Cedric Stewart (Ashley), Darryl Stewart (Erica), Christopher Stewart (Desiree), and Homer Jr. Stewart (Teresa); 21 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Zachary Robinson, Tim Robinson, Rayford C. Robinson, Jr., Cedric Stewart, Homer Stewart, Jr., Darryl Stewart, Christopher Stewart, and James Carter.

THOMAS WHITE
Thomas L. White, 60, of Yazoo City died March 24, 2013 at River Region Hospital in Vicksburg.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 25. Burial followed shortly after the service under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. White was born July 23, 1952 in Washington County to William White and Emma Lee Cook, both of Mississippi. He was a member of Holly Bluff Baptist Church. Mr. White was also a construction worker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include three sisters, Sandra Lee Harrison, Wanda Damiens and Paulette W. Seawright, all of Flora.

LONZY WILKERSON
Lonzy Wilkerson, 87, of Bentonia died March 19, 2013.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Evening Star M.B. Church with Rev. Willie A. White officiating. Burial Followed at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church under the direction of Shaffer and Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilkerson was born July 6, 1925 in Yazoo County to the late Morgan and Laura Wilkerson. He was a member of  Evening Star M.B. Church in Bentonia.
He was preceded in death by one daughter; five grandchildren,  Robert Brown, Demetress Wilson, Kelsey Wilkerson, Shandell Wilkerson, and Amanda Brown; two brothers; and seven sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Wilkerson; three sons, Earl Wilkerson (Glendora) of Rockford, Ill., Lonzill Wilkerson (Velma) and Curtis Wilkerson, all of Jackson; twelve daughters, Lessie Brown (R.L.), Eula Cox, Stella Berry, Kathy Spicer (Rev. Clifton), Henrietta Thompson (Ollie), Lonnie Payton (Lee), Marcella Barbary (James), Gloria Ross (Curtis), Dessie Street (Eugene), Cora Burke (Tyrone), Albertine Yancy (Adrean) and Berry Hodges (James); three brothers, Wallace Wilkerson, Ples Wilkerson, and A.D. Myles; 84 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 36 great-great children; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

LEWIS COLLINS
Lewis L. Collins, 65, of Yazoo City, died March 11, 2013 at River Region Medical Hospital in Vicksburg.
Funeral services were held March 16 at King Solomon M.B. Church in Yazoo City with Rev. Benjamin Hall officiating. Burial followed at Cypress Gardens under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Collins was born on May 23, 1947, the oldest of 14 children.
He was a member of Holiday Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Kenny Ramsey in Louise. He later rededicated his life at King Solomon M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Benjamin Hall.
Survivors include his five brothers, Arthur Collins of Broadview, Ill., Charlie Collins Jr. of Belzoni, Gerald Collins of Kansas City, Mo., Odell Broomfield and Kelvin Broomfield of Buffalo, N.Y.; stepbrother, J.W. Broomfield (Ida) of Weed, Calif.; eight sisters, Leola Walls of Buffalo, N.Y., Betty Bowen (King), Elimiria Haymore (Otha), Wanda Jackson (Charles), all of Yazoo City, Patricia Hester (Michael) of Clinton, Vivian Richardson of Louise, Katrina Harris (Clint) of Jacksonville, Fla.,  and Loranina Richardson (Michael) of Woodbine, Ga.; two stepsisters, Hazel Thomas (Robert) of Weed, Calif. and Grace Thompson of Louise; and a host of family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Tarence Canterberry, Michael Hester, Jonathan Jackson, Samuel Maghett, Darrell Thompson and Terell Thompson.

WALTER GUTHRIE
Walter Leroy Guthrie, 72, of Benton, died March 19, 2013 at the G.V. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 22, at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Burial followed at Scotland Baptist Cemetery in Yazoo County.
Mr. Guthrie was born Feb. 22, 1941 in Yazoo County to Walter James Guthrie and Jennie Elizabeth Saxton, both of Mississippi. He was a retired sewing machine mechanic at Southern Bag, as well as a U.S. Army Veteran.  He was a member of Benton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Trudy Guthrie of Benton; two sons, Ronald Wayne Guthrie of Dallas, Ga., and Russell Shane Guthrie of Naples, Italy; two daughters, Lisa Jeannine King of Fayetteville, N.C., and Regina Lynn Davis of Louisville, Texas.; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Buck Guthrie of Gluckstat, and Herb Guthrie of Clinton; and three sisters, Clarice Davis of Benton, Dorothy Williamson of Jackson, and Carolyn Hardy of Jackson.
Serving as pallbearers were David Davis, Ken Gelston, James Eckert, Pope May, Steve King, Clark Carter, Jesse Guthrie, and Kevin Manor.

JAMES RAGLAND
James V. Ragland “Jabbo,” 69, of Satartia died March 20, 2013 at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 22, at Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Ragland officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City.
Mr. Ragland was born Sep. 13, 1943 in Madison to James H. Ragland and Margaret Sumrall, both of Arkansas.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Satartia and was also a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brooks Ragland; son, Ken Ragland; and brother, Bobby Ragland.
Survivors include his three sons, Chat (Kim) Ragland of Vicksburg, Greg (Sandra) Ragland of Yazoo City, and Benji Ragland of Satartia; six grandchildren; a brother, Billy Joe Ragland; four sisters, Carol Parett, Ruth Torrans, Geraldine Kain, all of Satartia, and Frances Lloyd of Inverness.
Serving as pallbearers were Mr. Ragland’s nephews.

NINA SODAY
Nina Jeanette Smith Soday, 81, of Thomasville, Ga., died on March 20, 2013 after a brief illness.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Laurel Hill Cemetery.  with Rev. Dr. Gary Milton officiating.  
Mrs. Soday was born on March 26, 1931 in McCall Creek, Miss.  She was the daughter of the late Nola Denver Smith and Gladys Case Smith.  She was married to Albert Jay Soday, who preceded her in death.  
Mrs. Soday received a bachelor’s degree in education from Louisiana State University, where she met her husband of 57 years. They resided for many years in Yazoo City, where she taught school and raised her family.  
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Yazoo City and later of Thomasville. She was active in the WMU.
Survivors include her children, Jay Soday and wife Roselynn of Bentonia, Denver Soday of Canton, and Gwyn Mallett and husband Jerry of Thomasville; grandchildren, Samantha McWilliams and husband David, Molly Senior and husband Josh, Kimberly White and husband Jason, Katie Murphy and husband Nick, Sarabeth Hudson and husband Doug, Lauryl Eppler and husband Adam, Kent Mallett and wife Lauren and Seth Mallett; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosalie Strickland and Margie Whitehead and husband Walt all of Baton Rouge, La.; brother, J. LARRY WARRINGTON
Larry James Warrington, 69, of Bentonia died March 15, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 18, at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glen Warrington officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Yazoo County.
Mr. Warrington was born Nov. 1, 1943 in Mobile, Ala. to Maureen F. Mansfield and Leon W. Warrington, both of Mississippi .
He was a member of Ogden Baptist Church and was employed as a clerk with the Illinois Central Railroad Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Warrington.
Survivors include his two sons, Glenn Warrington of Bentonia, and Jimmy Zila of Magee; daughter, Lisa W. Koenes of Covington , Ky.;  daughters-in-law, Denise Warrington and Kirsten Zila; son-in-law, Brian Koenes; three sisters, Dorothy Smith and Inez Hawk, both of Bentonia, and Frances Lee of Katy, Texas. ; brother, Marion Warrington of Bentonia; and eight grandchildren.

JAMES WRIGHT JR.
James H. Wright Jr., 32, of Yazoo City died Mar. 9, 2013.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 16, at the Scott Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Henry Collins officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Wright was born Feb. 25, 1982 in Yazoo City to Betty Smith and James H. Wright Sr. He was affectionately known as “Junior.”
Survivors include two sisters, Elise Sutherland (Harrison) of Los Angeles, Barbara Wright (C.L. Deal) of Yazoo City; girlfriend, Katherine Myers; son, James Wright, and three stepchildren of Jackson;  uncle, Willie Smith (Yvonne) of Los Angeles; aunt, Delores Haywood (the late Herbert) of Los Angeles; six nieces; four nephews; and a host of great nieces, nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Lee Davis, James Grady, Kendrick Granderson, Quinn Wright, Markell Brown, and Kelvin Grady.

Josephine Horton
I was born February 11, 1926, the second child of Flanders and Bettie Evans Williams. Growing up in Lexington, Mississippi and being educated at Ambrose Vocational School was filled with rich experiences. I accepted Christ at an early age and united with St. Paul Church of God In Christ where I committed myself to a life time of sanctification, praising and serving God.
At the age of 16, I began my teaching career at Milestone Vocational Center. Immediately I knew that educating children would be my lifelong profession. While attending Jackson State Teachers College (now University) part-time, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and later a Master of Science also in Education from Jackson State University and completed further studies at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.
While living in Holmes County I met the love of my life, Rommie Tommie Horton, Sr. from Fayette, Mississippi. We were married on January 25, 1953.  Marrying Rommie gave me a new, extended family to also love and enjoy. Being an agriculture teacher, farmer and Christian, he worked tirelessly to rear our five children in a loving, Christian home.
I taught school at Milestone and Georgeville Elementary High School (Holmes County) Vaughan Station and Linwood Elementary (Yazoo County) for 42 years. After the sudden death of my husband, on June 10, 1984, I concluded my teaching career and dedicated my retirement years to traveling with the 69ers Club, volunteering at Holmes County Hospital-Lexington, Mississippi, St. Paul Wide Awake Club, Yazoo County Retired Teachers Association, Holmes County Retired Teachers Association, Holmes County TRAID Club, Yazoo County Soil Conservation, Mississippi Farm Bureau Association,  vegetable and flower gardening, crocheting, knitting, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Every day brought good news and excitement to my husband and me, while raising our five children.  We worked together, following God’s direction, to provide for our children.  For more than twenty years, we owned and operated People’s Barber and Beauty Shop and People’s Burial Association in Lexington, Mississippi.  Seeing all of our children succeed in there career and raise our ten grandchildren and twelve great-grand children was my ultimate joy.
Even though the time came to let go, I cherished the memories of my parents, son, Melvin L. Horton, and siblings, Modestine Williams, Flanders Williams, Jr. and Lillie Mae Tucker; lifelong friend, Mamye Wilks Johnson, and loyal friends: Eloise Ellis and Katherine Austin Pierce, who proceeded me in death.
I leave behind my children, Zeta (Mark) Tyler, Chicago, Illinois, Rommie (Cynthia) Horton, Jr., Benton, Mississippi, Paula (Macarthur) Washington and Sharron (Dale) Robertson, Jackson, Mississippi; my sister, Annie Dale “Tiny” (Earnest, Sr.) Hart, Chicago, Illinois, my play sons, Charlie Frank Wade, Jr., Byram, Mississippi, Jimmy Marlow, Lexington, MS,  and Larry Moore, Benton, Mississippi; special friend, Angeline Pepper, Vaughan, Mississippi and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
My life was enriched by a multitude of friends in Holmes and Yazoo Counties especially; but also throughout the United States and abroad. Now, the time has come for me to start a new eternal life with my Heavenly Father.

HAZEL KELLOUGH
Hazel Irene Griffin Kellough, 92, of Yazoo County, died on March 5, 2013 in Plano, Texas.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Yazoo City.
Hazel was born on October 10, 1920 in Yazoo County to Murray Albert Griffin and Oda Pearl Spivey.
She attended school in Satartia. She was married to Thomas Henry Knott and lived in Yazoo City, where she and Tom had two daughters, Hazel Katherine and Sarah Elizabeth. They divorced in 1947, and Hazel attended secretarial school in Jackson. She worked there for several years before moving to Evansville Indiana to work for Dobbs House Catering Company at the Evansville airport.
While working there she met and married William Kellough. They lived and worked in Evansville at the Kellough Hotel and Restaurant Supply.  Upon retirement they moved to St. Petersburg, Fla.
Hazel moved back to Yazoo City to be close to her family when Bill passed away.
In 2000, she moved to the Dallas, Texas area to spend time with her daughter, Sarah, and granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kellough and two beloved granddaughters, Sarabeth Sealock and Kathleen Sealock; sisters, Mary Ashley and Bonnie Scroggins; and brothers, Murray Griffin and Floyd Griffin.
Survivors include her daughters, Hazel (Pete) Knott Kaletta and Sarah Knott Sealock; grandchildren, Andrew Thomas Kaletta (Michele), Matthew Joseph Kaletta (Nam), Katherine Kaletta Grady (James) and Michael Griffin Kaletta; eight great grandchildren; brother, Marion Griffin (Elizabeth Kirk); sister, Peggy Adams (Bill); and sister-in-law, Kathleen Griffin.
