The Yazoo County Retired Education Personnel Association met Feb. 28 in the D.D. Waiver Building at the Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Complex.
The meeting was called to order by Pres. Barbara Moore.  The devotional was given by Blondell Fikes, who spoke on how one can overcome sorrow.  Gala Starling led the group in singing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” The pledge of allegiance was recited.
The minutes were read and approved. Catherine Brent gave the treasurer’s report in the absence of Clementine Davis. She reported that the County Teachers’ Association, which does not meet anymore, donated their balance to the retired teachers. Some of the county’s members are now retired members.
There was a state meeting held on March 13 at the R & D Center in Jackson.
Catherine Brent gave the legislative report with suggestions on issues where members can participate. She also reported on which members are life members.
Edna Straughter and Barbara Moore made an announcement of MAE meetings at the Jackson Medical Mall on March 1.
Door prizes were awarded and refreshments were enjoyed as well.  
The next meeting will be March 28.

The Mississippi State Society Children of the American Revolution held its 2013 Debutante Presentation on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at the Jackson Hilton Hotel during the MSSDAR State Conference.  
Debutante Kelly Kathleen Olivieri was escorted by Harrison Read Carlton Treasurer of MSSCAR. She was dressed in a white chiffon and beaded dress carrying a bouquet of white roses.  
Before the presentation her escort gave her a gift of a lovely book to remember this special occasion.
Kelly is the daughter of Ralph and Kathleen Olivieri of Starkville and the granddaughter of Clifton and JoAnne Collins of Yazoo City.  
She is a member at large of the MSSCAR and Jr. member of the DAR.  
Kelly has served as a Page at the MSSCAR State Conference for the last six years and will serve as a Page at the NSDAR National Congress in Washington D.C. this summer.
A National Honor Society member, she graduated as a Mississippi Scholar with an Honors diploma from Starkville High School in 2012. Kelly attained the highest honor one can achieve in the Girl Scouts of the USA - the Gold Award.  
Miss Olivieri is presently attending Mississippi State University majoring in Public Relations. She is a feature twirler for the Famous Maroon Band where she performed at the 2013 Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla .  
Kelly is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Social Fraternity, where she is Service Chair.  
After the banquet and Debutante Presentation, the debutantes were guests of the MSSDAR in a spectacular penthouse reception honoring the lovely girls, their escorts, family, friends and DAR members.

The Music and Worship Ministries of Parkview Church of God will be undertaking their most ambitious telling of the Easter story on March 30 and 31.  
On Easter weekend the Celebration Choir, Drama Ministry and Banner Ministry of Parkview will present “The Story,” a truly amazing and visual re-creation of God’s story from the Genesis account of the Creation to the Revelation account of the Return of Jesus Christ.
In this ever-more-secular culture, people are asking such questions as, “What is the point of Easter?” and “Why do you Christians make such a ‘big deal’ about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ?” Others are questioning, “What relevance does this Jesus have in my own life?”
Parkview will seek to answer these difficult questions through the power of music and drama, presented with passion and excellence. Choir members, solos, dramatists, readers, Parkview instrumentalists and guest musicians, authentic scenery and costumes, and other visuals will bring “The Story” to life.
Pastor Ken Lynch and Elouise Coleman, Music and Worship Leader of Parkview, invite the public to attend one or both of the Easter presentations. The first telling is Saturday, Mar. 30, 6:30 p.m., in the sanctuary located at 1750 Highway 16-East, in Yazoo City .
A repeat performance can be viewed on Sunday, Mar. 31, at 10:30 a.m.
There is no admission fee and tickets are not required.

The Lintonia Garden Club met on Feb. 27 in the Public Service Boardroom.
During the meeting, reports were given on the Arbor Day project at the Love House and the Garden Therapy Project at Oasis.
The Episcopal Church’s planting of tulips and pansies was chosen as Yard of the Month.
The guest speaker was Mary Lynn Powers, first vice president of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi. She presented a slide show presentation from her visit to Claude Monet’s extensive gardens just outside of Paris.
Refreshments were served after the meeting by hostesses Roxie Ewing, Judy Sanford and Stella Nail.
