Yazoo Community Complex to host fundraiser and other activities on Saturday

Special to The Herald

The Yazoo Community Complex will have a variety of activities being held this weekend in an effort to reach out to all ages.
The activities will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Johnny Staples, with the complex, said the Education through Recreation program will begin with a variety of activities geared towards academics through recreational exercises. Children will have the opportunity to play anything from basketball to dodge ball but will also be required to perform certain reading and math exercises.
Staples said an Easter egg hunt will also be held during the afternoon. In an effort to include older residents, he also said a senior citizen program will be held in conjunction with the youth activities.
The senior citizen program is directed by Claude Collum and coordinated by Nancy Hudson and Ruth Irwin.
“We will have a place set up where our senior citizens can come enjoy the festivities and watch the younger children play,” Staples said.
Registration will be held from 11 until noon.
Staples said he will also announce the adoption of a fourth and fifth grade class at Woolfolk Middle School.
Saturday’s events gained support from Jody Clark, Days Inn, the Indian community, Light of Wisdom #246, Men of Standards and Focus on the Children.
“We will do whatever is necessary to improve their grades, attitude and motivation,” Staples said.
Refreshments and snacks will also be sold as a fundraiser for the complex to hire teachers for future tutorial programs.
