Miss Susan Atkinson and Pete FarrisMr. and Mrs. Raymond Lee Atkinson of Brandon announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Susan Elizabeth Atkinson to Pete Nathaniel Farris of Southaven. Susan is the granddaughter of Eleanor G. Campbell and the late James E. Campbell of Yazoo City and the late Ray and Arlayne D. Atkinson of Clinton. Susan will graduate from Mississippi College in May with a B.A. in English Writing. She is the president of the English honors society, Sigma Tau Delta, as well as a member of Alpha Chi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Alpha Lambda Delta. In her years at Mississippi College she has worked with the school newspaper, The Collegian, as both a section editor and copy editor and with the school’s art and literary magazine, The Arrowhead, first as the assistant editor then as the general editor. Off-campus, she worked with Courthouse Gymnastics Inc., for four years as an instructor. She has also served as a tutor for two years in the Mississippi College Writing Center, as an office assistant in the English Department, and as the summer assistant for the Gore Art Gallery. Currently, she works as a freelance copywriter and editor with Catalyst Media Solutions based in Clinton. She is an alumna of East Rankin Academy. Pete is the son of Gary and Julie Farris of Southaven and the grandson of Kitty and Gary Martin of Hardy, Ark., and Pete and Linda Sue Farris of Hornlake. Pete will graduate from Mississippi College in May with a B.S. in Graphic Design. He is the president of Kappa Pi, the honorary art society, as well as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa. He is a valued student of the art department with many awards and honors from the department for his artistic achievements. During his time at Mississippi College, he has worked in the Samuel Gore Art Gallery as one of its most dedicated student workers and as a Mac computer lab assistant. Pete has worked with several publications on campus including the Collegian, the Arrowhead, and the Tribesman. He is also an experienced photographer, having worked with the Life Touch portrait studios for a number of years, as well as a talented graphic designer and web developer, working with several businesses and design studios in the Metro-Jackson area. Currently, he is a freelance designer and web developer for Digitize My MSG and is the founder and owner of Catalyst Media Solutions. He is an alumnus of Southaven High School. Their wedding will be celebrated at Lakeland Presbyterian Church, Flowood, June 8 at 2 p.m. All family and friends are welcome at the ceremony and reception.
Marquita Maria Powell is an 18-year-old senior at Yazoo City High School. She is the daughter of Matthew and Alice Powell. Marquita participated in the Miss Magnolia Pageant at Delta State University on Mar. 23, 2013. She won the title of Miss Magnolia State-West. She will go on to participate in the Miss Magnolia State Finals in November.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class DeVirris J. Powell graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. DeVirris is the son of Angela Granderson of Dover Road, Bentonia. He is a 2005 graduate of Yazoo City High School. Army National Guard Pvt. DeJarveon D. Moore has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Moore is the son of Antionette Carter and grandson of Priscila Carter of Easy Street, Yazoo City. He is a 2011 graduate of Yazoo City High School.
Miss Katrina Coleman and Spencer JonesJames and Rhonda Coleman of Natchez are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Katrina Coleman, to Spencer Jones, son of Eddie and Dorothy Jones of Bentonia. The bride elect attended Natchez High School, the University of Southern Mississippi, and William Carey University. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree of Education from Southern Miss, and a Masters Degree of Education from William Carey. She currently teaches fifth grade at Jackson Public School. The prospective bridegroom graduated from Yazoo County High School, as well as University of Southern Mississippi. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science while at Southern Miss. He is currently the Director of Development with Mississippi Interactive. The couple will exchange vows on April 20, 2013 at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Natchez with a reception to follow at Vidalia Convention Center. Family and friends of the couple are welcome to attend.
