The Lucky Ladies Book Club recently took a tour in Yazoo City after studying Willie Morris.Special to The Herald

The Lucky Ladies Book Club from Jackson, Flora, Madison, and Ridgeland, having read a series of books by Willie Morris, toured his home places in Yazoo City on March 26.  
They began with lunch at Tom’s on Main, then went to the library, where John Ellzey told them of Main Street School, the Sam B. Olden Historical Museum, and the new Haley Barbour Room.  
Afterward, they went to Glenwood Cemetery to hear Vay Barbour McGraw tell of the Witch of Yazoo.  She was accompanied by Charles Carlisle.  
They were very enthusiastic about the places made familiar to them by Willie Morris in his descriptions of Yazoo City and said the hospitality here was unsurpassed.

Miss Jen Donovan and Jamie Guthrie Jr. Jack and Diane Donovan of Long Beach are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Lynne Donovan, to James Thomas Guthrie Jr., son of Tommy and Dana Guthrie of Yazoo City.
The bride elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Lillian Donovan.
Miss Donovan attended Long Beach High School, as well as Mississippi State University, where she will receive her Bachelor’s Degree of Music Education in May of this year.  She is a member of MSU Delta Delta Delta Sorority, of which she served as President in 2012.
The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Mrs. Robert Guthrie, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cassibry.
Mr. Guthrie attended Manchester Academy, as well as Mississippi State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Psychology.  He is currently a Community Support Services Specialist at Singing River Services in Gautier.
The couple will exchange vows on May 18, 2013 at six o’clock in the evening at the Donovan home in Long Beach.  Dr. Rodney Fisher, pastor of Shepherd’s Way Church in Long Beach, will officiate the ceremony. 
A reception will follow at the home of Jack and Diane Donovan in Long Beach.

The Benton Garden Club met on March 9 at the Benton Methodist Fellowship Hall.  
Hostesses were Patty Barbour and Golda Luse.  
Guest speaker was Joelyn James from Vicksburg. The program was entitled “Growing & Using Herbs”.   
An interesting slide show was presented on the types of herbs and their uses not only for seasoning purposes but for medicinal purposes also.  
A delicious brunch was served.  The tables were decorated with pots of herbs and rabbits to symbolize the approaching Easter season.  There was also a beautiful arrangement of red roses on the serving table.

Miss Susan Atkinson and Pete FarrisMr. and Mrs. Raymond Lee Atkinson of Brandon announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Susan Elizabeth Atkinson to Pete Nathaniel Farris of Southaven.
Susan is the granddaughter of Eleanor G. Campbell and the late James E. Campbell of Yazoo City and the late Ray and Arlayne D. Atkinson of Clinton.
Susan will graduate from Mississippi College in May with a B.A. in English Writing. She is the president of the English honors society, Sigma Tau Delta, as well as a member of Alpha Chi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Alpha Lambda Delta. In her years at Mississippi College she has worked with the school newspaper, The Collegian, as both a section editor and copy editor and with the school’s art and literary magazine, The Arrowhead, first as the assistant editor then as the general editor. Off-campus, she worked with Courthouse Gymnastics Inc., for four years as an instructor. She has also served as a tutor for two years in the Mississippi College Writing Center, as an office assistant in the English Department, and as the summer assistant for the Gore Art Gallery. Currently, she works as a freelance copywriter and editor with Catalyst Media Solutions based in Clinton. She is an alumna of East Rankin Academy.
Pete is the son of Gary and Julie Farris of Southaven and the grandson of Kitty and Gary Martin of Hardy, Ark., and Pete and Linda Sue Farris of Hornlake.
Pete will graduate from Mississippi College in May with a B.S. in Graphic Design. He is the president of Kappa Pi, the honorary art society, as well as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa. He is a valued student of the art department with many awards and honors from the department for his artistic achievements. During his time at Mississippi College, he has worked in the Samuel Gore Art Gallery as one of its most dedicated student workers and as a Mac computer lab assistant. Pete has worked with several publications on campus including the Collegian, the Arrowhead, and the Tribesman. He is also an experienced photographer, having worked with the Life Touch portrait studios for a number of years, as well as a talented graphic designer and web developer, working with several businesses and design studios in the Metro-Jackson area. Currently, he is a freelance designer and web developer for Digitize My MSG and is the founder and owner of Catalyst Media Solutions. He is an alumnus of Southaven High School.
Their wedding will be celebrated at Lakeland Presbyterian Church, Flowood, June 8 at 2 p.m. All family and friends are welcome at the ceremony and reception.
