Richardson and Wells to exchange vows on Nov. 10

Devironne Richardson and Ricky Wells Sr. Devironne Richardson and Ricky Wells Sr. Betty Bennett and Joe Lockhart are proud to announce the union of their daughter, Devironne Richardson to Ricky Wells Sr., the son of Delois and James Harber.
Both of Yazoo City, she is a photographer with Elim's MultiMedia Studios and the dance coach and sponsor at Yazoo City High School. He is a correctional officer at F.C.I Yazoo City and also a brave Staff Sargent in the U.S. Army Reserve. He is also a graduate of Alcorn State University. They both attended and graduated from Yazoo City High School.
She is the granddaughter of the late Mrs. Bettie and Mr. J.B. Richardson. He is the grandson of the late Beatrice Wells.
The lovely couple will be tying the knot, Saturday November 10, 2012 at 4 p.m. The ceremony and reception will be held at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church’s Fellowing, where Rev. Willie E. Smith will be officiating the double ring ceremony.
The couple’s wedding theme is “Fall 'n Love.”
She will be wearing a lovely gown from David's Bridal. Her Maids of Honor are Candice Levison of Yazoo City and Rachel Terrell of New Orleans.  
The Matron of Honor is Cortessa (Gates) Wallace of Canton.
He will be wearing a suit from Tuxedo Junction. Standing closely at his side will be his Best Man and Better Man Marcus Gower of Yazoo City and Kinzy Simmons Sr. of Yazoo City.

Ms. Gala Starling was presented the Hall of Fame Award at the D.W. Wilburn Foundation Annual Awards program on Sept. 16. The Hall of Fame service award recognizes individuals who have used their public presence to give back to the community.
In memory of the late D.W. Wilburn, the D.W. Wilburn Foundation Inc. is committed to providing services and giving direct support to the citizens of Yazoo County.
Gala Starling has been a dedicated supporter of the foundation’s mission since its development in 1996. She has demonstrated her strong concern for education and humanity in many other capacities in the community.
Gala is a 1959 graduate of Tougaloo College. She is a retired school teacher from the Yazoo County School District. Since retiring in 1992, she has fulfilled her passion for community involvement by volunteering her time with Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Services, Retired Teachers Association,  Alzheimer’s Association, Foster Care Association, Y-Teens and several other organizations.
She is a member of Mt. Vernon M.B. Church, where she is Choir President and Sunday School teacher.

 

Tamia Lankston turns 5

Joining in the celebration were big sister Makala Lankston and big brother Curtis Lankston Jr.
Maternal grandparents are Milton and Laketha Gilbert of Yazoo City.
Paternal grandparents are Henry and Lillie Lankston of Louise.
God parents are Raven Henderson of Louise and Zid Moore of Dallas.

 

Miss Guthrie to wed Kirk on Nov. 3

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie H. Guthrie Sr. of Yazoo City and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Powell of Louise.
Miss Guthrie is a graduate of Benton Academy.
She is employed at Benchsmart Federal Credit Union.
The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Kirk Sr., Malcolm Weathers and the late Alma Morris, all of Yazoo City.
He is a graduate of Manchester Academy.
He is self-employed with Kirk Trucking.
The couple will be married on November 3, 2012 at 3 p.m. in Satartia at the Emmaus Chapel at No Mistake Plantation.
Rev. David Bryant, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate the double-ring ceremony.
A reception will follow at the Benton Country Club.
Invitations have been sent for the ceremony, but family and friends are invited to attend the reception.

 

Garden club learns about pruning

The Four Seasons Garden Club recently held its monthly meeting. Donna Beliech, a horticulturist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, gave an informative program on pruning. Members of the Four Seasons Garden Club were eager to learn about pruning, one of the least understood practices of landscape maintenance.
Donna Beliech, a horticulturist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, presented an informative program at the garden club’s October meeting in the home of Patsy Peaster.
During the meeting, president Jeanne Santmyer announced that the club also won several awards from the Garden Clubs of Mississippi.
The club earned a Certificate of Merit for its Arbor Day Program, Community Service, Publicity and Environmental Awareness. The club earned a Certificate of Appreciation for contributions to the Governor’s Mansion Landscape Fund, Garden Clubs of Mississippi Scholarships and State Headquarters Endowment Fund.
Members also enjoyed a delicious apple dessert with refreshments.
Co-hostesses were Pam Hibbard and Linda Ketchum.
