Grab your walking shoes and support local kidney patients

Special to The Herald

The Yazoo City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority again seeks your support to help our local friends and families throughout Yazoo who suffer from the debilitating effects of Kidney Disease.  Each year you have reached out with your donations to support this worthy cause and we and the patients thank you with all of our hearts.
Grab your walking shoes, put your best foot forward, and help us stomp out kidney disease! Just head to the scenic Fondren Neighborhood in Jackson, Mississippi, on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 9:00 a.m., to join the Michael Rubenstein Kidney Walk, sponsored by the Mississippi Kidney Foundation and presented by Fresenius Medical Care. Delta Sigma Theta is now in its seventh year  supporting this annual non-competitive walk focusing on the education and prevention of kidney disease, as well as organ donor awareness.
The walk begins at the MS Kidney office, located at 3000 Old Canton Road. It will wind through the scenic Fondren Neighborhood and conclude at Fondren Presbyterian Church, located at 3220 Old Canton Road. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Mix 98.7 will be "rockin' the tunes", with Great Harvest Bread on hand serving fresh baked bread. St. Dominic’s Care-A-Van will also be on-site offering free blood pressure screenings. For any “weary walkers”, the Fondren Express Trolley will be providing a free ride. When walkers return to Fondren Church, there will be endless ice cream provided by Schwan’s.
To add a little extra excitement, each walker or team raising $100 or more, will receive the opportunity to participate in the “Helicopter Golf Ball Drop” with a grand prize of $1,000 cash. Around 10:15 a.m., WLBT’s Skycopter 3 will appear in the sky; it will then hover in the air and release the golf balls. The owner of the ball that lands in the hole or closest to the hole will receive $1,000.
Each year your support has helped to make Yazoo City a major contributor in the state and we hope this year will be the same.
All funds raised will aid local families and patients of Fresenius Medical Care who face emergencies.  You can mail your donations to Delta Sigma Theta/Kidney Walk at PO Box 1915, Yazoo City, MS 39194 or contact, YCAC Project Manager, Zellee Delaware at 601-421-4951 or YCAC Chapter President, Diane Delaware at 601-832-8175.
