 Miss Candace Carey and Roger Burton IIIMr. and Mrs. Steve Pigg of Bentonia and Kim and the late James Carey of Etowah, Ark. announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Miss Candace Kaye Carey, to Roger Franklin Burton III, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Roger Franklin Burton Jr. of Bentonia.
Miss Carey is the granddaughter of the late Mr. Leo Tucker, Mrs. Catherine Tucker and Mrs. Bernice Pigg of Bentonia and the late Mr. James Carey and the late Mrs. Rhudene Carey Bennett of Etowah, Ark.
She is a graduate of Manchester Academy. She also earned a degree in Elementary Education with Special Education from Delta State University.
She is a second grade teacher at East Flora Elementary School in Flora.
The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roger Franklin Burton of Bentonia and the late Mr. Robert Appleton and Mrs. Mary Sue Appleton of Yazoo City.
He is a graduate of Tri County Academy. He also earned a Business degree in Accounting from Delta State University.
He is self-employed.
The couple will be married on December 22 in a private ceremony in Key West, Fla.
A reception will be held on December 29 at 7 p.m. at the Lodge in Bentonia.
Family and friends are invited to the reception.

Members of the Oakes African-American Cultural Center Community Choir are busy preparing for its annual Christmas Cantata.
Rehearsals have been underway for the fifth annual cantata, scheduled for Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Triangle Cultural Center.
All proceeds go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Oakes African-American Cultural Center Museum.
The cantata will feature performers from area churches. This year’s program is under the direction of Rev. Steve Dennis and Joe Henry Smith.
Last year’s audience was again treated to a beautiful medley of Christmas carols provided by choir members from local churches. This year’s cantata, Behold Emmanuel: Love is With Us, is shaping up to be even more entertaining that the previous four musical events.
Thanks to the efforts of the Oakes Advisory Committee, this year’s Christmas musical event at the Triangle promises to bring in a larger audience than that of the four previous years. Several former Yazooans travel from Jackson and other surrounding areas to participate in the event. They look forward to making the trip to Yazoo City and lending their voices to the chorus in an effort to entertain and raise funds for the Oakes House.
Tickets for the Cantata are $4 and may be purchased at the door or from members of the Yazoo County Fair and Civic League Inc. Warm apple cider along with other light refreshments will be served following the program.

Deshaun Holmes is proud to announce the birth of her child, Mason Lee Holmes, on November 27, 2012 at St. Dominic Hospital.
Mason weighed seven pounds, two ounces and measured 20 inches long.
Grandparents are Pastor Herman Walls and First Lady Helen Walls.
Also welcoming the new arrival are sister Kary Holmes and Matthew Holmes.

The Lintonia Garden Club met on Nov. 14 at the Public Service Commission Boardroom. After a brief discussion of business matters, Dr. Elouise Upchurch introduced the guest speaker, Debby Copper.
Mrs. Cooper, second vice president of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi, presented a program on flower arranging. By adding dried natural grasses, old pieces of driftwood, small bare branches, fruits and vegetables and just one or two fresh flowers to greenery provided by each garden club member, she created many unique and eye-catching arrangements. Each member got to take an arrangement home.
After the meeting, hostesses Lois Ward and Eloise Epperson served delicious refreshments.
