Local DAR sends care package to veteran

The Yazoo Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution had their Nov. 15 meeting at the First Presbyterian Church after they had the laying of the wreath honoring veterans at the Yazoo County War Memorial.
JoAnne Collins, Yazoo Chapter Regent, conducted the meeting with the following giving reports: Sue Patterson-Minutes and Women’s Issues; Ava Hale-Treasurer and Conservation; Sarastelle Sigrest-National Defense; Priscilla Harper-President General and Rosalie; Gloria Adcock-Spirit Magazine and Box Tops for Education; Vay McGraw-membership.
The members packed a box to send to the group’s patriot in Afghanistan filled with Christmas cards, phone cards, candy, cookies and crossword puzzle books.
Sue Patterson, retired from the Air Force, gave a short program about her time in the Air Force.
The next meeting will be held on Dec. 13 at 11:30 a.m. in the country home of Sarastelle Sigrest.
The hostesses were Marsha Williams and Snooky Hogue.

Hawkins HawkinsRoy’Kira Hawkins, daughter of Roy and Tonya Hawkins of Yazoo City, celebrated her fifth birthday on Nov. 9.
She celebrated her birthday with a A Princess and the Frog theme on Nov. 10 at home with her sister Mennyaun and brother Roy III, along with her family and friends.

Mary Brickell Circle of King’s Daughters and Sons officers installed

Officers of the Mary Brickell Circle of the King's Daughters and Sons were installed in a ceremony at Martha Coker Home Green Houses during the September meeting. The officers for the 2011-2012 term are Marietta Wilkinson, Vice President; Rhonda Carpenter, Secretary; Betty Nickels, Treasurer, and Julie Hoffman, President.

Ewing shows ceramics to local retired educators during meeting

The Yazoo County Retired Education Personnel Association met on Oct. 25 in the D. D. Waiver building at the Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Complex.
The meeting was called to order by President Barbara Moore. Clementine David lef the group in singing “My Country ‘tis of Thee.” The members recited the 23rd Psalm and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
The minutes were read and approved. The treasurer gave a report on finances.
A report on the district meeting held Oct. 5 in Vicksburg was given by Blondell Fikes.
The new theme for the association is “Be Wise, Be Watchful.”
The program was presented by Roxie Ewing who owns Roxie’s Rainbow of Ceramics, which is located in the Triangle Cultural Center. She explained the methods of ceramics and brought items showing each process. She has items at Downtown Marketplace.
Door prizes were awarded, and refreshments enjoyed.
