The regular meeting of the Yazoo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held on Jan. 17 in the home of Marsha Williams.
Hostesses for the meeting were Delaine Stoner, Priscilla Harper and Ava Hale.
The meeting was opened by Regent JoAnne Collins and Chaplin Sarastelle Sigrest. The reports were given by the following members: Harper, President General’s and Rosalie’s Report; Sigrest, National Defense Report; Sue Patterson, Minutes and Women’s Issues; Hale, Treasurers Report, Conservation and Veteran Volunteer Services; Stoner, Native American Indian; Gloria Adcock, Spirit Magazine and Box Tops for Education; Collins, American Flag; and Vay McGraw, Membership.
Congratulations to the DAR Good Citizen winner, Kathryn Hamel Dooley from Benton Academy. She will be honored at the National Defense Luncheon at the MSSDAR State Conference.
Harper, Chairman of the Nomination Committee, presented the slate of officers for the 2013-2016 terms for vote. Chapter Regent Wendy Cartwright, Vice Regent JoAnne Collins, Chaplin Priscilla Harper, Treasurer Beja Everett, Registrar Ava Hale, Recording Secretary Sue Patterson, Corresponding Secretary Sarastelle Sigrest, Historian Vay McGraw, Parliamentarian Marsha Williams. Installation of officers will be held in April.
Speaker Sara Sheffield of Preservation Yazoo presented an enlightening program on historic preservation in Yazoo City, progress of the restoration of the Pugh/Blundell House and genealogy research she has done on the Pugh/Blundell family.
The Yazoo Chapter would also like to encourage the public to attend Spring Pilgrimage in Natchez and visiting the MSSDAR owned Rosalie Mansion on March 9-April 12.

Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. J.T. McDaniel Jr.
Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Milton Farrish and Danny Nicholson.

 

Mrs. Dillard reads to children

Mrs. Leola Dillard recently invited a group of children from the Mississippi  Action for Progress Headstart Center into her home for a morning filled with black history. Mrs. Dillard, local volunteer and beloved community figure, read a book on Dr. Martin Luther King to the children. She also showed the children a video on an African children’s choir. The children and their teachers were also given a tour of Mrs. Dillard’s honors. Swinks welcome Destinee

SwinkSwinkMr. and Mrs. John Swink of Georgia are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Destinee Nichole Faith Swink, on November 4, 2012 at Hamilton Hospital in Dalton, Ga.
Destinee weighed four pounds, five ounces.
Mrs. Swink is the former Christen Heathcock of Bentonia.
Maternal grandparents are Rosia Young and Mrs. and Mrs. J.T. McDaniel Jr. of Bentonia.
Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Swink of Georgia.
