Swinks welcome Destinee

SwinkSwinkMr. and Mrs. John Swink of Georgia are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Destinee Nichole Faith Swink, on November 4, 2012 at Hamilton Hospital in Dalton, Ga.
Destinee weighed four pounds, five ounces.
Mrs. Swink is the former Christen Heathcock of Bentonia.
Maternal grandparents are Rosia Young and Mrs. and Mrs. J.T. McDaniel Jr. of Bentonia.
Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Swink of Georgia.

 

Benefits to be held this weekend

Two fundraisers will be held this weekend for local causes.
A yard sale will be held on Feb. 2 from 8 a.m. until at 207 Grand Ave. All proceeds will go to the Yazoo County Baseball team.
A bake sale will also be held on Feb. 2 at McDade’s from 8 a.m. until for Delphene Dees to help with her cancer treatment.

 

Tree Day to be held on Feb. 7

Tree Day will be held next week in Yazoo City.
The annual event will be held Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the National Guard Armory.
Hardwood and pine seedlings will be available for free including Cherrybark Oak, Bald Cypress, Green Ash, Red Maple, Sawtooth Oak, Shumard Oak and Swamp Chestnut Oak. Sawtooth Oak bundles will also be available for $7, with 15 per bundle. Flowering trees available while supplies last include White Flowering Dogwood and Sweet Bay Magnolia for $5 each, Bradford Pear for $8 and Red Crape Myrtle for $3. Miss Roark to wed Shipp on March 9

Miss Mary Roark and Dr. David ShippMiss Mary Roark and Dr. David ShippMr. and Mrs. Steve Roark of Yazoo City announces the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mary Morgan Roark, to Dr. David Patrick Shipp, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Shipp of Benton.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Geddie Jr. of Tupelo and  Mrs. Bettye Roark and the late Ubon Roark of Yazoo City.
Miss Roark graduated from Manchester Academy with honors in 2006. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Science and Disorders in 2010 and a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology in 2012 from the University of Mississippi.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll. She was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Lambda Sigma and Gamma Beta Phi.
She was a member and social chair of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She is also a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
She is a speech-language pathologist at Pearl Lower Elementary School.
The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Middleton and the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hugh Shipp Jr., all of Benton.
He was a graduate of Benton Academy in 2004, Mississippi College in 2008 and the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2012.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Mississippi College in 2008.
He graduated Cum Laude and was also on the President’s and Dean’s List. He was a member of the Mortar Board. He also was a member, secretary and treasurer of the Civitan Men’s Club.
While at dental school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2012, he was on the Dean’s List. He also served as a Dental School Student Body Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President.
He was a representative of the American Student Dental Association and the Mississippi Dental Association. He earned the American Academy of Endodontics and Periodontology awards.
He is currently completing his residency at the University of Mississippi Dental School.
The couple will be married on March 9, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. in Emmaus Chapel in Satartia.
Rev. David Bryant, pastor of First Baptist Church, and Rev. Barrett Bowden, pastor of Island Community Church in Memphis and brother-in-law of the bride.
A reception will follow at Emmaus Retreat Center.


 

Courtney Rattliffe turns 6

RattliffeRattliffeCourtney Rattliffe Jr., son of Courtney Rattliffe Sr. and Sharita Davis, celebrated his sixth birthday on Jan. 26.
He celebrated his birthday with a cowboy and cowgirl theme party at Elim’s Studio on Main Street.
Grandparents are Richard and Vickey Rattliffe, Cynthia Davis and Ceon Rucker.
Great grandparents are Walter and Glinda Williams and Emma Rucker.
