Mrs. Dillard reads to children

Mrs. Leola Dillard recently invited a group of children from the Mississippi  Action for Progress Headstart Center into her home for a morning filled with black history. Mrs. Dillard, local volunteer and beloved community figure, read a book on Dr. Martin Luther King to the children. She also showed the children a video on an African children’s choir. The children and their teachers were also given a tour of Mrs. Dillard’s honors. Nicholson turns 1

Swinks welcome Destinee

SwinkSwinkMr. and Mrs. John Swink of Georgia are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Destinee Nichole Faith Swink, on November 4, 2012 at Hamilton Hospital in Dalton, Ga.
Destinee weighed four pounds, five ounces.
Mrs. Swink is the former Christen Heathcock of Bentonia.
Maternal grandparents are Rosia Young and Mrs. and Mrs. J.T. McDaniel Jr. of Bentonia.
Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Swink of Georgia.

 

Benefits to be held this weekend

Two fundraisers will be held this weekend for local causes.
A yard sale will be held on Feb. 2 from 8 a.m. until at 207 Grand Ave. All proceeds will go to the Yazoo County Baseball team.
A bake sale will also be held on Feb. 2 at McDade’s from 8 a.m. until for Delphene Dees to help with her cancer treatment.

 

Tree Day to be held on Feb. 7

Tree Day will be held next week in Yazoo City.
The annual event will be held Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the National Guard Armory.
Hardwood and pine seedlings will be available for free including Cherrybark Oak, Bald Cypress, Green Ash, Red Maple, Sawtooth Oak, Shumard Oak and Swamp Chestnut Oak. Sawtooth Oak bundles will also be available for $7, with 15 per bundle. Flowering trees available while supplies last include White Flowering Dogwood and Sweet Bay Magnolia for $5 each, Bradford Pear for $8 and Red Crape Myrtle for $3.
