Dooley earns Good Citizens Award

JoAnne Collins, Yazoo Chapter Vice Regent, recently presented Kathryn Hamel Dooly the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Good Citizens Award for Benton Academy.  
The award includes a Good Citizens Pin, certificate and wallet card.  
Kathryn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Dooley.  
The DAR Good Citizens Award is based on dependability, leadership, patriotism, community service, activities and academics. Only one senior from each high school may be chosen.  
The following are some of Kathryn’s accomplishments while in high school: her senior year, she was president of the Honor Society and Student Council, Homecoming Queen, and Vice-President of the Sr. Class; a member of the 4-H Horse Hippology Team and 4-H exhibitor of swine, lambs, and horses; cheerleader and track team for six years; and numerous academic awards in English, Algebra, Chemistry, American History, Spanish, and Sociology; member of St. Mary’s Catholic Youth Organization and member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and volunteered at Manna House, Martha Coker Nursing Home and Stew Pot Ministries.  
Kathryn plans to attend Mississippi State University, majoring in biochemistry and pursuing a career in the medical field.  

 

Miss Morrison to wed Nicholas

Miss Mary Hampton Morrison and  James  Greenlee NicholasMiss Mary Hampton Morrison and James Greenlee NicholasMr. and Mrs. James Wayne Morrison of Yazoo City announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Hampton Morrison, to James Greenlee Nicholas of Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mark Nicholas of Sandhill.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. Charlie Wade Burns Sr. and the late Mary  Ann Burns of Benton, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Bonnie Lee Morrison of Yazoo City.
Miss Morrison is a graduate of Manchester Academy, and graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. At MSU, she served as Kappa Delta Sorority President and a Roadrunner student recruiter.
Miss Morrison received her Master of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations from The  University of Alabama. She is a Public Relations Strategist at The Cirlot Agency in  Flowood.
The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Calvin Greenlee of  Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Eugene Nicholas of Sandhill.
Mr. Nicholas is a graduate of  Jackson Preparatory School.  He graduated from Mississippi State University earning  a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Real Estate and Finance.
Mr. Nicholas served as Treasurer of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was involved in Reformed University Fellowship.
Mr. Nicholas works as a loan officer with Southern Ag Credit in Ridgeland.
The couple will exchange vows on June 22, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Yazoo City.  Pastor David Gilbert, of Second Presbyterian Church, will be officiating the ceremony.

 

National Garden Club Week

The Lintonia Garden Club invites the public to join them in celebrating National Garden Week on June 2-8. Enjoy the plants and flowers visit Ricks Memorial Library to see the club’s poster and find out some of the things they do during the year. They are affiliated with the National Garden Clubs Inc., Deep South Region, The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc., River Road District. Birthday girls hold Batson toy drive

As both girls celebrate their sixth birthday on Saturday, Rivers Wells and Simmons Bradshaw will donate all their birthday gifts in their third annual Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital Toy Drive.
All birthday gifts will be donated to the children’s hospital.
To make a donation, drop off gifts at the First United Methodist Daycare.

 

Daiton Jones born on May 23

Shakevya Jones is proud to announce the birth of her child, Daiton Ja’rell Jones, on May 23, 2013 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
Daiton weighed six pounds, four ounces and measured 19 and a half inches long.
Maternal grandmother is Kimberly Jones.
