JoAnne Collins, Yazoo Chapter Vice Regent, recently presented Kathryn Hamel Dooly the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Good Citizens Award for Benton Academy.
The award includes a Good Citizens Pin, certificate and wallet card.
Kathryn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Dooley.
The DAR Good Citizens Award is based on dependability, leadership, patriotism, community service, activities and academics. Only one senior from each high school may be chosen.
The following are some of Kathryn’s accomplishments while in high school: her senior year, she was president of the Honor Society and Student Council, Homecoming Queen, and Vice-President of the Sr. Class; a member of the 4-H Horse Hippology Team and 4-H exhibitor of swine, lambs, and horses; cheerleader and track team for six years; and numerous academic awards in English, Algebra, Chemistry, American History, Spanish, and Sociology; member of St. Mary’s Catholic Youth Organization and member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and volunteered at Manna House, Martha Coker Nursing Home and Stew Pot Ministries.
Kathryn plans to attend Mississippi State University, majoring in biochemistry and pursuing a career in the medical field.
