Cartwright presides over Cameo Society MSSDAR meeting

Wendy Davis Cartwright, Yazoo Chapter Regent, presided over the Cameo Society Mississippi State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution meeting as president on June 8.
The meeting took place in the Grand Old Post Office in Canton, followed by speaker Ann Tindall, a member of Dancing Rabbit Chapter, who spoke on her “Rosalie Kin.”
After the meeting and program, all those present enjoyed a delicious luncheon.  
The Cameo Society is a part of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Its members must have a family connection (mothers, daughters, grandmothers, granddaughters, nieces, aunts) related to them who are also members in good standing of NSDAR. The purpose of the Cameo Society is to promote family ties and genealogical information as well as promote membership in the DAR.  
The one time dues are paid to support the MSSDAR State Regent’s Project and provide refreshments at the Opening Night session of the MSSDAR State Conference held in February.  
Other Yazoo Chapter members attending were JoAnne Collins, Yazoo Chapter Vice-Regent and Priscilla Harper, Yazoo Chapter Chaplin. 

 

Yard of the Month

Lintonia Garden Club, an affiliate of National Garden Clubs Inc. Deep South Region and the Garden Clubs of Mississippi Inc., has selected the patio garden of the Luse House at Martha Coker as yard of the month during April.  Tom Luby, a resident and avid gardener is responsible for the beautiful display of summer flowers. Birth Announcements

Kayla Brooke Willingham debuts

Jack and Shelby Willingham of Yazoo County are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Kayla Brooke Willingham, on April 16, 2013 at St. Dominics Hospital in Jackson.
Kayla weighed seven pounds, seven ounces and measured 20 and a half inches long.
Grandparents are Tommy and Debbie Backstrom and Kay Willingham and the late Charles Willingham.
Also welcoming the new arrival are big brothers Broc and Jay Willingham and big sister Anna Rose Willingham.

 

Miss Cook to wed Johnston

Miss Laken Cook and Ashton Johnston Miss Laken Cook and Ashton Johnston Mr. Victor Cook III of Jackson proudly announces the engagement of his daughter, Laken Alexzandria, to Richard Ashton Johnston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Jones of Pearl, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnston of Yazoo City.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Geraldine Morton of Jackson.
The prospective bride-groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Pierce of Pearl, Mr. Fred Johnston of Yazoo City, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd (Pete) Twiner of Belzoni and Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Joiner of Benton. He is the great grandson of Mrs. Gladys K. McLendon of Benton.
Miss Cook is a 2010 graduate of Pearl High School. She is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Business with a concentration in Business Management through Mississippi State University.
Mr. Johnston is a 2010 graduate of Pearl High School. He is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Accounting through Mississippi State University.  
The couple will be united in marriage on July 20, 2013, at Eastside Baptist Church in Pearl at 2 p.m. All friends and family are cordially invited to attend.
Following a honeymoon, the couple plans to reside in Starkville.


 

Brandyn Purvis attends Mississippi Governor’s School

Brandyn M. Purvis was selected to participate in the 2013 session (June 2- June 21) of the Mississippi Governor’s School.  
The Governor’s School is a residential honors program established in 1981 by Governor William F. Winter at Mississippi University for Women.  The Governor’s School is designed to provide academic, creative and leadership experiences for a limited number of rising high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated exceptional ability and achievement in their studies and who show high intellectual, creative and leadership potential.
Brandyn is the son of Michael and Miranda Purvis of Yazoo City. Brandyn has just completed the tenth grade at Yazoo City High School where he received awards for the Principal’s List and honor roll. He was also a homecoming escort his freshman and sophomore years.
Brandyn is a member of the Governor’s Youth Advisory Council, Jr. Kappa League and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
