A.J. Downs and the Manchester Mavericks took on the Central Hinds Cougars Monday night falling 14-4 to the guest in a non-conference match-up.
Downs knows in the game of baseball you have to have a short memory.
"You play a lot of games in baseball season, and you don't have to wait a week to play one like you do in football," Downs said. "We just have to forget about this one and move on to the next one."

Manchester Academy held its 8th annual Baseball Camp Friday morning at the campus.
MA headmaster Bryan Dendy said he believes it’s important for young ballplayers to begin learning fundamentals at an early age.
"We have been doing this for the last eight years," Dendy said. "You can never start too early with teaching a kid the fundamentals of baseball."
Dendy said the camp is a fun way to spend part of spring break.

Gainwell is excited about the opportunity.
"I had to earn my spot on the team," Gainwell said. "It has been a lot of hard work, but it will be worth it in the future. I can't play until the 2014 season."
Gainwell has earned a spot to compete in a weightlifting competition in Texas this spring for Louisiana Tech.
"It’s a great chance to represent this great university," Gainwell said. "I hope I can finish strong in this competition."
Gainwell also plans to play some fall baseball for the Bulldogs.
"I've got a chance to play some baseball too," Gainwell said. "I'm not sure how long that will last with football coming up, but I'm going to play for them either way."
